At Home Spa Day

Self care, self quarantine – am I right? While we won’t have a real spa day anytime soon, we might as well through one of our own in the mean time! Here are some great things to make sure you do during your upcoming self care spa day.
Hair Masks
Because what says, “It’s a self care spa day” quite like a hair mask? I’ve been using Lush’s Retread for years and absolutely love it. I’ll use this hair mask every other or every time before I wash my hair. On spa day occasions, I break out the big guns with the coconut oil. A nice oil concoction while relaxing through the rest of the spa day activities is a MUST.
Acupuncture Mat
A fun, relaxing torture device. Acupuncture has many benefits, I’ll let you Google that on your own, so I love incorporating this into a spa day. H*ll I incorporate it into every day. Fifteen to twenty minutes laying on this mat, focusing on breathing, listening to calming music (or nothing) is the definition of at home spa.
Tea Bank
It’s not a successful spa day without some great drinks. Oddly enough, one of my favorite parts of a spa day is relaxing with a hot glass of tea before my treatment even begins. I’m a tea-fanatic so welcome to my personal stash. I have a wide spectrum of teas and others in my organizer and some loose leaf teas in the back. My favorite teas for a spa day are the Chamomile with Lemon and the Dandelion Root.
Nail Strengthener
For me, my nails aren’t a priority. I don’t want to pay for someone to do them and I don’t really want to keep up on a nail polish that just chips everyday. That’s why I focus on growing healthy long nails with this polish. You apply every other day and it helps to strengthen my nails to the point where they are beautiful au natural.
Rolling
I’m a rolling fiend and a don’t discriminate when it comes to my rollers. I bought this jade roller / gua sha about a year ago and I absolutely love them! They are nice for a spa day or even just day to day. It’s definitely a self care day when I break out my ice roller, a gift from my mother (thanks mom!). It’s so cooling and great for de-puffing, aka hangover cure (again, thanks mom).
What are you doing during your spa days at home? Leave me some ideas below in the comments!

Go-To Body Oils

Welcome to the obsessive world of my top shelf body oils. My everyday’s, my golden children, my repurchases again and again and again. Here’s what I have in my personal arsenal, what are your go-to’s?
Argan Oil
My obsession : My everything, this oil never lets me down. If I need a boost of moisture I’ll use this oil on my hair, face, and body. My husband even uses this to maintain his beard! I’ve been using this for years but have never been loyal to one brand versus another. Every one I’ve purchased has performed just as well as the last.
When I use it : I use this oil every time I wash my hair and every time I need an extra boost. Whenever I wash my hair (every 4-5 days), I’ll use this oil immediately and allow my hair to air dry. This applying this oil to the tips of my hair helps my scalp get less oily between washes. I’ll also use this oil whenever I’m needing an extra punch of moisture anywhere.

Rosehip Oil
My obsession : I’ve been hooked on this one for YEARS. Ever since I’ve incorporated this oil into my routine, I’ve been loyal to the Radha Beauty brand. I’m very careful to use it only at night, since it is a BRIGHT orange. Don’t worry, by the time you wake up it will be fully soaked in and you’ll be back to your normal self. It’s an absolutely wonderful facial oil that I’m forever addicted to.
When I use it : I’ll use this oil every.single.day. After I wash my face at night, I’ll follow up immediately with a dime-sized amount. I’ll pat it into my face and work any excess into my neck. I’m so dedicated to a moisturizing oil at night that, whenever I’m out of this oil, I’ll replace it with my argan oil.

Cannabis Oil
My obsession : A newer obsession but definitely has earned it’s high regards. I purchased the Kiehl’s Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Herbal Concentrate and I’m hooked. It’s pricey but I only use it in special circumstances. I’m still on my first bottle but it’s lasting A LOT longer than I thought it would (another plus in my book).
When I use it : My favorite way to use this is mixed with my rosehip oil at night when my skin is acting up. The ingredients are meant to induce a calming effect, making this my go-to when my horomones inflict havoc on my face. Kiehl’s to the rescue!

Tea Tree Oil
My obsession : A long standing staple and another hero for my hormones. I have purchased a couple bottles of this and it lasts SO long. It lasts so long, mostly, because it’s such a concentrated amount that it can only be used in small doses. I wet a Qtip with some water, dip it into the tea tree oil, and then apply it. Without it watered down, it’s WAY to powerful and will dry your skin out terribly.
When I use it : I only use it on the most stubborn acne spots. I use to treat every spot with this but found it to be so strong that it would just dry my skin out. Using it on only the worst of the worst seemed to neutralize it for me and has worked perfectly!

November Beauty & Skincare Empties

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

You may be asking, “How did you accumulate so many empties? You just moved!” Yup, that’s because I moved all my empties for you guys! I knew there were some serious goodies in this batch you all needed to hear about so I made a point to move all of these so I could share. It’s been a couple months since my last empties post so I was due for another. This month I surprisingly have a good deal of empties; and, all of these empties are winners in my book!

There are many repeat stars in this batch so I’ll leave a link to my last empties post here so you can read more about them. There are a few new winners in this bunch, and those are the products I’d like to talk to about today!

Dolce by Dolce and Gabbana

I first purchased this scent for my wedding and now it’s become my signature scent. I wear this scent almost every day. I am the worst at describing scents so I won’t even try to embarrass myself! Just go try this out the next time you’re at Sephora and I promise you won’t be sorry.

NYC Color Wheel

I purchased this product to use as a contour powder and loved it! It had just enough gray in it that it was the perfect contour color for my complexion. Sadly, since my switch to cruelty free, I couldn’t repurchase this product. However, if that isn’t an issue for you, I highly recommend this product!

Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Control

This face wash was great. It left my face squeaky clean and didn’t dry it out any. Again, I couldn’t repurchase because Clean and Clear’s mother company isn’t cruelty free. On to the next!

Sonia Kashuk Brow Gel

Don’t judge how dirty my brow gel is… It was well loved and repurchased! This product keeps my brows perfectly in place and I much prefer the clear over colored so I can be as messy as I want! (Because who really has the time to perfect their brows every morning?)

Fresh Rose Face Mask

I love this mask and it was a nice switch from my usual GlamGlow go-to’s. Plus it smelled absolutely amazing! I didn’t love it enough to repurchase it but I have nothing bad to say about it!

Let me know what products you’d like me to try out next and I’d love to do a review on it!

Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Lifting Neck Cream Review

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

The best way to take care of yourself is to be proactive not reactive. That’s why I’ve started using something like a neck cream in my mid-20s. I’d rather prevent than have to deal with problems as they arise later in my life. I’ve tried a couple neck creams so far, which I’ll touch on later, but this Juice Beauty one has been my favorite thus far. Although, at my age I can’t see any differences, I’ve heard nothing but good things from women with more mature skin while using this product. And as I’ve been using this product, I haven’t had any bad reactions or breakouts from it. So that’s a win in my book!

In the past, I tried out the Mario Badescu Vitamin A-D-E Neck Cream and I didn’t have anything bad to say about it. Again, I’m not at the age of where it is essentially needed. So it’s hard for me to grasp if a product really works or not. However, what I can attest to is the consistency or formula. The Mario Badescu formula was more true to the term “cream”. It is very thick and heavy. Some women may view that as a plus and that the heavier the cream the more moisturizing. While others, like myself, just view it as unnecessary and uncomfortable. I used it before bed and the next morning, I could still feel a thick layer on my skin. I adjusted the amounts of what I would use and still ran into the same effect. It seemed like it was too thick to really absorb into my skin fully.

After I ran through my Mario Badescu neck cream, I started giving the Juice Beauty product a try. After having something to compare it to, I can tell you that I much prefer the formula of the Juice Beauty neck cream. It’s a much thinner consistency. I apply it at night before I go to bed and I can still feel it on my skin the next morning. Not in a heavy way that the Mario Badescu came off to be; but, a lightweight well-moisturized feeling. I can tell my skin soaked up all the moisture and I know that my makeup products will lay beautifully on top of it.

In my opinion, I will continue to purchase the Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Lifting Neck Cream because I think it does much better for me and my lifestyle. It may have the larger price tag but I think it’s worth it to maintain youthful looking skin. I will always spend more on skincare than make-up for the sole reason that I’ll live with my same skin forever but can always switch up my make-up.

P.S. I hope you enjoy the little fur baby who thought this was a photo shoot for her 😊

Everyday Makeup Look Under $20

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Yeah, you read that right. This look was created with less than $20! Sometimes a girl has to ball on a budget. And just because you’re on a budget, that doesn’t meant that you have to compromise your style at all. The trick to staying under $20 is picking the right products to get a multi-use out of each one. Here is what I used:

Elf BB Cream – $6.00

I love this bb cream and have been using it for a couple years now. You can find my full review on it here. It’s great for this look because it gives a lively dewy glow to the skin so you don’t have to stress about ditching a primer! This bb cream looks great applied with a beauty blender but also looks great applied with your hands (for an even cheaper application).

NYX HD Concealer – $3.74

I cannot live without concealer and my under eyes definitely can back me up on that haha! I used this concealer to highlight all the usual high points on my face and also used it to prime my eyelids. Dual purpose!

Wet N Wild MegaGlo Contouring Palette – $4.99

This product is so great and the most versatile of all the products I use here. I use the matte highlighting side to set my concealer all over my face and eyes. Then I took the contour powder and brushed that over the perimeter of my face. This powder is still rather warm for me so I like to use it to bronze as opposed to contouring. Then I took the contour powder on a smaller brush to work that on the crease of my eyelid and lightly dust under my lower lashes. Since I’m a brunette, I was able to use this contour powder as a filler for my brows too! Can you say amazing?! If you prefer to pass on foundations and concealers, you could survive off of this one product! Love!

Wet N Wild Max Volume Plus Mascara – $4.99

Mascara is something I can’t live without so I had to make sure I included this product in this challenge. This is actually my favorite mascara and I use it religiously. You can see my full review on this product here. If you’re an eyeliner junkie, you could take some of this product on a liner brush and give yourself a bit of winged liner. I usually don’t use liner so I opted out of that.

That’s it! Four products, under $20, fabulous everyday look. This was a fun challenge for myself and also taught me a thing or two about my own collection. Next time I’m running low on room when packing, I now know I can create this beautifully simple look with four small products!

Leave me a comment below and let me know your thoughts! If you try this challenge, tag me so I can see what you come up with!

5 Helpful Tips For Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

It’s not a fun task, but it’s a necessary one! Cleaning my makeup brushes is always a dreaded task for me and I have no idea why. It takes me all but 15 minutes and is so SO beneficial. I really need to get into a better habit of just doing it (I’ll touch on that later though). Here are some tips that will make your cleaning process easier and hopefully cheaper!

Use Household Products

Feel free to skip out on the specific cleaners out there on the market that are dedicated to cleaning makeup brushes. There are much cheaper alternatives that you most likely already have! I use a mixture of dish soap and just a dash of extra virgin olive oil. The soap will sanitize your brushes while the oil will keep the hairs/fibers of your brush moisturized and prevent them from splitting. I have been using this concoction for a few years now and love it! No use messing with the big name brand cleaners that are way more expensive.

Down Is Always Right

When you are sink washing your brushes be sure they are always pointing down. If they are facing up, you’ll get water into inner parts of your brushes and upsetting the glue. You’ll find more bristles will start falling out and your bristles may even become deformed. Just always make sure the bristles are pointing down while washing and you’ll avoid any problems!

Your Hand Is A Powerful Tool

Sure the cute little glove or insert you clip in the sink that makes “washing your brushes a breeze” looks cute and every Instagrammer has them; but, you really don’t need this. (Unless you have like 40 brushes to wash then, in that case, you do you booboo!) The natural grooves and curvature of your own hand works just the same and the textured mats. More money saved!

Elevate Your Brushes

When you’re all done washing, be sure to lay them out to dry before setting them back upright. I like to elevate the handle of my brushes to even further prevent any water from settling inside the brushes. It helps dry them faster and ensures the longevity of my brushes. Win, win!

Schedule Your Washes

Personally, I need to get much better at this. I like setting reminders on my Google Calendar to remind myself to set aside a few minutes at the end of the day to get this done. This makes remembering to wash them so much easier! Now, I just need to work on the follow through. J

Leave me a comment below and tell me if you’re better at remembering to wash your brushes than I am!

August Beauty Empties

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

It’s time to purge my hidden beauty empties drawer and show you all a little sneak peek behind a few things I’ve ran through recently. I feel like last month I ran through quite a few odds and ends in my beauty collection; but, most of my empties this month are hair products. Without further ado, let’s jump into this empties collection

OGX Coconut Milk Shampoo + OGX Argan Oil Conditioner

I’ll save you some redundancy and time and link my full review of these products here.

Batiste Dry Shampoo in Divine Dark

Yet, another favorite of mine. Check out some more thoughts of mine in my last empties post. I go through these like every other week!

Tresemme Hair Spray

This has been my tried and true hairspray for YEARS. My hair literally doesn’t move but doesn’t compromise the lividity. No crust but all the hold! Now with me using this up, I’m on the search for a cruelty free hairspray solution. Let me know what you recommend!

Radha Rosehip Oil

Obsessed. I’ve already replenished my stock on this oil. I’m so glad I tried this out. The best part? I find mine on Amazon and have it delivered straight to me! This oil has totally changed my skin for the better and I can’t even imagine my life before it.

Retread

My go-to hair mask for damaged hair. It’s helped me keep my long hair while repairing my dead ends. I didn’t think I could get my hair to grow past a certain point; but, this product proved me wrong! Love it!

Glam Glow Thirsty Mud

Dry skin? You need this! I have loved each and every Glam Glow mask I’ve tried thus far. This mask is so perfect for that extra boost of hydration and it smells delicious!

Mario Badescu Vitamin A-D-E Neck Cream

There’s no better time to start taking extra care of your skin than before the damage is already done. I started using a neck cream this year and this was the first product I tried. I loved the thick consistency and it felt very nourishing. I didn’t see any change in my neck but, then again, I don’t have mature skin yet. I’m trying a different neck product now and will let you know how the two compare!

Victoria’s Secret Fresh Body Mist

This mist is from….Christmas I think? I was gifted a collection of four or five and have been switching between them all. Clearly, I really liked this one! The scent wears off easily but what body mist doesn’t?

NYX Micro Brow Pencil

My everyday eyebrow pencil that has seriously upped my brow game. I have already repurchased!

E.l.f. Liquid Eyeliner in brown

E.l.f. is seriously underrated. I love some of their products and this is one of them. Their eyeliners are great quality and easy to apply. What could be better? I like switching up my eyeliner color to brown for daytime looks because it’s less harsh. I recommend trying this one out!

How To Get Rid Of Oily Skin

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Take it from someone who has had oily skin all her life, I didn’t think it was every going to be possible to change my skin type. I thought you were born with what you got and that’s that. However, I found that many of my habits and lifestyle choices were the reasons behind my oily skin.

I know every person is different and every person reacts differently to certain products, etc. But, I just wanted to share with all of you how I got rid of my oily skin so you could try out a few tips for yourself!

Moisturize with oils

I know it seems like backward logic and the last thing you’ll want to do is add more oil to your face; but, the results are worth it. Your face is producing so much oil because, odds are, you’re not moisturizing enough and your skin is working overtime trying to make sure you stay hydrated. The best thing you can do to combat oil is to keep your skin well hydrated and I found, personally, oil works best for me. I use 100% Organic Rosehip Oil and it has transformed my skin. I use it as a moisturizer every night for an extra boost while sleeping.

Remove makeup every night

I use to be SO SO BAD at taking my makeup off and my skin really hated me for it. I never realized how much my skin hated it until I stuck to a strict routine of removing it every.single.night. My skin improved so much from just that simple step. I know sometimes it’s hard to remember or fit it into your busy schedule but I promise you’ll thank me later.

Established a routine

Like I mentioned above with a routine of makeup removal, I also worked many other products and steps into My Skincare Routine. I feel so much better and my skin looks so much better. (I can definitely write an updated skincare routine post if you’d like to see that.) Taking the extra ten minutes a day to give my skin everything it needs and finding the right products that compliments my skin was essential to changing the amount of oil.

Multi-masking

I use to think masks were just used to get all the nasty junk out of your skin so I would only use either exfoliating or charcoal masks. They would totally suck all the good oils and moisture out of my face and only worsen my complexion. Since then, I’ve learned what problem areas to target with the harsh masks (like breakouts, my T-zone, etc.). For the rest of my skin, I’ll use a gentle hydrating mask. Multi-masking lets you create the perfect concoction for your skin that you’ll never find by just applying one single mask to your face.

Lightweight products

Let’s just say that in my early makeup days I didn’t exactly go for the ‘natural’ look. But, then again, who did? It was the early 2000’s. Everyone was orange and everyone wore pale nude lipstick. Nowadays, I’ve learned how much better your makeup and skin can benefit from using natural and lightweight products. That goes for makeup as well as skincare products! My Go-To Foundation is the Too Faced Born This Way and I don’t know if I’ll ever switch foundations. It gives the perfect amount of coverage without weighing down my face. It’s a super breathable foundation. Your skin will thank you! As for skincare, switching to a lightweight oil as opposed to a heavy moisturizer really helped my skin breathe while getting everything it needed. Less really is more!

Hitting Pan On Some Favorites

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

It’s that time again to run through some products of mine that I have used up. This time around is a lot of hair care products. Mostly because I’ve got some seriously thick and long hair. My hair eats up anything I put into it like it’s nothing! As you can tell, I’m a loyal Batiste customer. I’m always on the lookout for something new to try so I’d love for you to leave me some suggestions below.

This time, my empties consist of some real tried and true staples in my beauty collection. I’ve loved all of these and repurchased them all again. This is definitely the post to check out if you’re in the market for anything new.

Batiste Dry Shampoo

I haven’t tried a Batiste dry shampoo that I haven’t loved but I’m a sucker for the Divine Dark shade. It works just as well as the others and masks the typical dry shampoo “dust” with a hint of my brunette hair color. Really great!

OGX Coconut Milk Shampoo

Yeah, I’ve run through a huge bottle of this. Since I go 3-4 days between washing my hair, I like to double up when I do wash it. I find giving it a double dose of shampoo really cleans my hair well. This coconut milk shampoo feels great on my hair. Shampoo naturally strips the oils from your hair, good and bad, but this shampoo doesn’t dry my hair out at all. I’ve purchased another large bottle of this already!

Lush Retread

Cannot think of a better hair mask. I really can’t! I have yet to come across another moisturizing mask that can beat this product. I live by this! Click here to read my full review on this product!

Jergens Natural Glow

For all the pale girls out there like me who have the worst time getting a natural tan. I highly recommend this natural tanner. It’ll save your skin from the harsh sun rays but will give your skin the glowing radiance of beautifully tanned skin.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray

Ever since I tried this out last year, I’ve been HOOKED! I don’t go a day without using it. It really does keep my makeup in place and helps my face stay in place throughout the day! Click here to read my review of this product!

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation

I’ve done a full out review of this product so I won’t waste your time. Click here to read my review. Just know, you’ll be hooked after trying it!

How To Get Clear Skin This Summer

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Summer means later nights, more activities, and hotter temperatures. It’s sometimes hard to keep your skin nice and clear during the excessively hot summer months. Over the years, I’ve learned a few tips and tricks that I want to pass on to you guys to help your skin out this summer! The best part is, none of these tips are difficult or come with a high price tag. Keep reading to take the first step towards better looking skin!

Use Oil To Moisturize

I swear by using oil to moisturize! I use my rosehip oil every single night before bed. If you aren’t already using an oil to moisturize, I highly recommend trying it out. It’s going to be lighter weight in the summer and feel much better on your skin during the heat.

Regularly Clean Your Sunnies

Something a lot of people overlook is how much more often they are using their sunglasses. It’s so important to clean your sunnies more regularly to prevent oil and bacteria from building up.

Up Your Vitamin D Intake

Get outside and enjoy the sunshine! It’s so great for many reasons; but, your skin will look much better after some good ol’ sunshine.

Change Out Your Pillow Cases More Often

During the warmer months, be sure to swap out your pillow cases for fresh ones every couple days. You’re sweating more during the night and definitely don’t want all of that build up getting anywhere near your pores!

Be Sure To Use Sunscreen Daily

Always rule number one. Anyone could tell you that you need sunscreen every day, not just the summer months. Your skin will DEFINITELY thank you later for the extra protection. (Tip : Use a BB cream or moisturizer with sunscreen already mixed in to avoid a step!)

Leave me a comment below telling me how you plan on keeping your skin radiant this summer!

NYX Lip Lingerie   |  Tarteist Lip Paint  |  NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

Sephora Rouge Shine   |  Revlon Super Lustrious Lipstick

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream  |  Revlon Colorburst Lip Balm

Maybelline Color Sensational   |  Nars Velvet Matte Lip  |  Covergirl Colorlicious

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

My lip collection isn’t too big and there’s a very good reason for it. I don’t wear too many different shades! As you’ll be able to see from my swatches, I either go dark and sultry or extremely nude. I don’t have much of an in between. My everyday go-to lip color is of course the nudes. I only break out the dark or red shades for special events! My current favorite right now is this NYX Lip Lingerie in the shade Push-Up. They have a great formula and I’m planning on getting some more shades here soon.

March Lifestyle & Beauty Favs

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

March was a very busy month and feeling under the weather most of the month definitely was not how I would’ve preferred the month to go. But you always have to make the best of your situation so that is exactly what I did! Some of my favorites definitely helped my sicky-self get through the month. If you’re finding yourself in a similar situation to mine, keep on reading and see how I survived the month!

Samsung Tablet

I’m on my phone all day and sometimes I like to switch up my devices, especially for the silly little games I like to wind down with. I’ve been loving our new tablet and in particular Cookie Jam. It’s another knock off Candy Crush that is unbelievably addicting. My husband makes fun of me every time but I love it!

Lavanilla Deodorant

I recently hauled this and I’m really loving it. I’ll be writing an in depth review and explanation why I switch to a more natural product so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Silver Earrings

These gorgeous earrings were a gift from my boss that she got on her recent trip to Mexico. I’m in love with these earrings because they make sure a bold statement without being overly heavy.

Throat Coat Tea

If you read my How To Beat A Nasty Cold By Drinking blog, then you know all about this bad boy. It’s my ultimate go to when I’m recovering from a cold. It tastes absolutely amazing and really helps ease your throat. I highly recommend trying it out!

Sephora Honey Sugar Lip Scrub, Carmex, NYX Lip Lingerie

These three products in that order has been a life saver to helping me look more put together during my sick days. Whenever I get sick, my lips really take a toll and it shows! This lip scrub helps prep my lips for lipstick and I’m loving these.

Plaid Scarf

I’m loving this scarf for this time of year with the lighter pastel colors. The fabric is so soft and warm which is a must with these awfully cold and rainy days. But the colors channel a spring time vibe. I love this for the transitioning seasons.

Leave me a comment below and tell me something you’ve been loving this last month!
