I’m Back Baby!

Well, that was one h*ll of a hiatus. Did you miss me? I missed all of you wonderful people. I can’t believe it’s been almost TWO YEARS since my last post. Yikes!

Last time I updated you on here, I had just purchased my first home. And, being the introverted home-body that I am, decided to sprint full force into remodeling and updating the house. It took over my life and gave me less than optimal time to dedicate towards this blog. I’ve been steadily posting on my Instagram throughout my hiatus (shameless IG self promotion here) so hop on over there to stay updated on the day-to-day.

As I go through the different seasons of my life, I like to write about what components of my life take the most precedence. Which is basically my way of saying, the wedding posts are over! I’ll create a round-up for all you brides to be (or just obsessive compulsive planners) for easy reference. This season of my life is an all encompassing home decor, remodeling, and DIY influence. So, gear up and get ready for all the juicy tips and tricks I’ve been cataloging along the way.

I’m back, I’m ready, and I’m eager to share with all of you!

Spring Heels Are Now In Season

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Spring is in full swing and it’s got me itching to break out some of heels! I love nude colors and peep toe heels this time of year. It’s been a long winter in trendy booties but it’s time to break out the spring time shoes!

Tips For Organizing Your Important Documents

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

I’m still trying to figure out how exactly to adult, but I’d love to share what I’m learning along the way. One of the first topics I wanted to touch on was what to do with all those bills and important documents you’re accumulating. It’s not glamorous by any means but it will definitely help out. Keep reading to learn more!

Separate

It seems like a no-brainer; but, I mean separate to the point of insanity. More work now will make you a much happier person down the road when you need to find something. Take, for instance, if you have to pay for some things with your own money for work like material, gas, food, etc. Creating a folder for all of those receipts will end up being a nightmare when you go back and try to look for one specific thing. Try keeping a folder for each! It seems excessive but your future sanity is worth it!

Folders for recent

To make everyday life easy, I like to keep folders in this nifty little organizer for all the recent documents that may pile up. Anything that I may need in the next month or so will go into these folders so they’re easily accessible but still organized.

Accordion binder for old documents

Once a month or two has gone by, I’ll go in and purge any documents that are not needed anymore and file away important ones that don’t need to be kept so handy anymore. I like to use this accordion binder (you can find these at any store that sells office supplies). This accordion allows me to keep massive amounts of files in one location. I like to use a different accordion every year to help from jam packing one binder full of a few years. If you need to go back and find a document from a couple years ago, it’ll be a much better help if you know exactly which binder you put it in.

Smaller accordion binder for receipts

I do the exact same thing with receipts. I find that receipts pile up much easier than documents do so I like to put them in their own binder to manage the clutter better.

File away – in a safe preferably

One of the most important steps, finding a safe place to put all of this valuable information in. I recommend a safe or a locked desk drawer.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post. Let me know down below in the comments how you organize your bills and documents.

Home Tool Kit Necessities

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Let’s talk about the necessities of your home tool kit before your husband goes crazy in the nearest tool aisle. These few tools may seem a little out of the ordinary; but, I have used every one of them multiple times while living on my own and have been thankful for all of them. Here’s my home tool survival kit!

Tape measure (It’ll come up more than you think! Always a good thing to have on hand.)

Hammer

Screwdriver

Plier

Stud finder (Great when you’re hanging a heavy piece of furniture or art on the wall.)

Extra Nails & Screws

Mini level (For one, it’s cuter. Secondly, it’s much easier to store!)

Electrical tape

Flashlight (For when you don’t want to waste your phone’s battery, this comes in handy.)

mini-tool-kit

These few tools should get you on your way to having a fully functional home in no time. However, if your home is a much smaller scale, maybe opt for a mini tool kit. Obviously everything is cuter in miniature but this is also great for around the house or to put in your car, garage, new homeowners as a gift. My mother gave me one when I moved into my dorm room and I can’t tell you how much I’ve used this! It’s a must have starter kit.

Leave a comment below and tell me what tool you’re sure glad is in your home tool kit!

Wet N’ Wild Max VOLUME PLUS Mascara Review

wet-n-wild-mascara-reviewwedding-day-hairimg_9171Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

If you’re a makeup junkie or maybe just very particular about your makeup, you know that a mascara can make or break your look. If you accidentally pick up a bad mascara it can be very frustrating to try and take it off, as it’s normally the last step of your eye makeup. I’ve tested quite a few mascaras and can definitely say that I’m picky when it comes to the formulas. Before I started my transition into buying cruelty free products, my favorite mascara was hands down the L’Oréal Voluminous Carbon Black. After I switched from that I spent a few months bouncing back and forth between mascaras trying to find the right fit but I found my new love in this one!

The Wet N’ Wild Max VOLUME PLUS Mascara has quickly become my ultimate mascara. I would be lost if they ever decided to discontinue it. It doesn’t clump up when layering and does exactly what the name lets on, adds volume plus length. I love this mascara! I used this on my wedding day and every day since! I’m now on my second tube of this, which shows just how much I love this. It’s the most natural looking mascara I’ve ever used!

If you’re in the market for a new mascara, I would definitely recommend trying this bad boy out. Since its Wet N’ Wild, you know that the price is just right! I’m not sure why this isn’t hyped up more often but I love it! Leave a comment below and let me know what your favorite cruelty free mascara is!

Comfy Movie OOTD

Shirt : Charlotte Russe  |  Leggings : Charlotte Russe  |  Shoes  : Bonanza (similar) |

|  Scarf : Charlotte Russe  |

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Colder temperatures call for cozy movie nights. I was definitely ready to cuddle up in a big fuzzy blanket and binge watch some movies. (Marvel movies to be exact.) I picked up these extremely comfy clothes in a recent Charlotte Russe haul I posted last week. (Check it out here!) These leggings were so cheap but are such good quality. They are much thicker than I would’ve guessed they’d be, which is great in the winter and when you have shirts that may ride up and not cover enough (if you feel my drift). This shirt, however, covers the leggings perfectly. It comes down further in the front and the back. Also, the fabric is to die for. I live for shirts with this kind of fabric. They are so soft and perfect PJ shirts. The scarf is a really nice blanket material and super thick. I’ve been looking for another thick infinity scarf since I can’t seem to find my usual go-to scarf. I was clearly in an olive mood when I bought all these. I paired this outfit with my over the knee brown boots to add a bit of warmth to the outfit. These boots are extremely warm and comfy. I love how this outfit looks together and it was super comfy for a movie marathon!

Thanksgiving Outfit Inspiration

Blazer : Charlotte Russe  |  Shirt : Target  |  Shoes  : Charlotte Russe  |

Jeans : Boutique 1  |  Earrings : Charlotte Russe  |  Bracelet : Etsy

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

The inner fat girl in me is so excited for what is to come this week! Ugh! Halloween is by far my favorite holiday but Thanksgiving comes in for a close second. Getting to stuff my face full of yummy foods and not care about the calories is all I want! Especially now with hubby, I get twice the amount of food and family! It’s going to be a great Thanksgiving this year with lots of amazing food and amazing people.

I wanted to share a bit of Thanksgiving outfit inspiration in preparation for this food and fun filled holiday. I love this pairing. The olive and copper tones work so well together. This blazer is great because it’s flowy and has little structure to it. It’s a great in between piece that can be dressed down or up depending on what you pair it with. These jeans are something different! I love them and depending on the lighting you have them in, they change color a bit! They’re definitely copper but have a purple sheen in direct lighting. I doubt I’ll be able to find them again after so many years, but I’ll link something close! Layering the loose fitting tank top underneath is key to this kind of holiday. You don’t want anything constricting over your tummy! I finished off the look with my go-to brown booties and gold & copper accents. I’ll link as much as I can find as many of these items were purchased a while ago. Hope you have a great holiday and safe travels!

Stay tuned for more fashion posts from my Thanksgiving festivities! 🙂

My Pamper Routine

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Friday seemed like the perfect day to write this post so everyone can find at least an hour this weekend to pamper themselves. You don’t have to do ALL of these things, but I do recommend taking some time once a week and doing SOME of them. Getting a little ‘me’ time in will help melt away the stresses of everyday life. Keep reading to find out what I like to do every week to pamper myself a bit. Because YOU’RE WORTH IT 🙂

Remove Makeup and Get Into Comfy Clothes – Goes without saying that after I get home from a busy week at work I immediately shed my clothes at the door and swap them out for oversized comfy clothes.

Grab a Glass of Wine (or drink of your choice) – I prefer wine to help me relax but the decision is totally up to you!

Pluck Pesky Eyebrow Hairs – Once I’m comfy and have my wine I like to start getting down to business. Get rid of the annoying little brow hairs that may have popped up during the week always gives me a sense of satisfaction (anyone else?).

Apply Your Favorite Face Mask – After plucking and cleansing my face, I like to put a face mask on. Most of the time I’ll multi-mask. I have been trying out the Lush Mask of Magnaminty (stay tuned to hear my thoughts) so I’ll put that all over my face besides my nose. On my nose I’ll opt for a pore strip.

Apply Your Favorite Hair Mask – Multi-masking doesn’t just stop at the face! I’ll pop in a hair mask as well. (I actually do a hair mask before EVERY time I wash my hair, just to keep my hair from looking dull and dead.) Lush’s Retread hair mask/conditioner has been doing wonders for my hair. Honestly, I have had a couple people ask me what I’m doing differently with my hair.

Nice Hot Shower / Bath – Once I’ve left all my masks on for their allotted time (I normally go for about 30 minutes), I’ll jump in the shower. I’m not a bath girl, never have been and never will be. When I’m in the shower I’ll shave my legs, among doing all the other usual shower essentials. Trust me, you’ll want to shave too for the end results….

Moisturize – Such an important step that I NEVER forget. Especially after shaving my legs, I’ll make sure I use a basic lotion before I go in with my self-tanning lotion (to avoid irritation).

At Home Manicure – I like to keep up with my nails, even if I decide not to add a new coat of polish on that week. I like to go in and clean up my cuticles. For some reason, my cuticles get so dry and out of control if I don’t keep up on them. So I like to clean them up and then add a bit of coconut oil to them for moisture.

Vaseline to the Rescue – After my nails are dry, I like to apply a decent amount of Vaseline on my feet and slip on some comfy socks! My feet feel baby soft the next morning!

Freshen Up the Bed Sheets – Remember when I told you to shave your legs? Now you get it, don’t you? You’re welcome. 🙂

Relax – Light a candle, curl up in bed, read a book, and just relax!

New Hair Care Products

003

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Today I wanted to talk to you about a couple new products I picked up recently to try out. My shampoo and conditioner are getting low; so, while I was out buying backups, I decided to try out these two beauties. I’m super excited to dive into these. I’ve heard nothing but good things about OGX so I’m sure I won’t be disappointed. My hair is in a desperate need of a trim so any extra life I can put back into my hair, the better. While in the OGX section of the store, I decided to try out the Coconut Milk Shampoo and the Argan Oil of Morocco Conditioner. I didn’t want to commit fully to one or the other (coconut milk vs argan oil) so I decided to go with one of each. The main reasons I finally gravitated towards these are due to the fact they’re sulfate free and cruelty free. YAY! More cruelty free products to add to my arsenal! I’m itching to give these two a go and once I do, I’ll be sure to let you know my thoughts.

Have any of you used these products or any products by OGX? Have you enjoyed them? Let me know below.

Decor from Colorado

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

I can finally talk about these! We picked up one of these candles for a surprise souvenir for my fiance’s mother. Now that we’ve given it to her I don’t have to worry about spoiling the surprise! 🙂

Can we talk about how GORGEOUS these candles are? I picked these two up from this cute little store in Breckenridge, Colorado called Global Candle Gallery. These are all they sell and I immediately fell in love with their store. I’m not exaggerating when I say, I spent hours in their store testing as many candles as I could. These candles are handmade in the store right in front of you. Let me tell you, they employ some very creative people! These are amazing quality and such an innovative idea! These appear to just be normal candles; until, you put them under direct lighting, then they transform into a gorgeous work of art! The way they layer the wax gives the interior a completely different look than the exterior. This effect also happens when the candles are lit but I’m too much of a perfectionist to burn those gorgeous wicks. I, of course, purchase an all-white candle because I like to use texture as accents instead of color. For my fiance’s mom, we got a gorgeous multi-colored candle that features this cute little elephant (her favorite animal)! I am so in love with these for so many reasons; but most of all, I love supporting local artists. The employees talk so highly of their work and you can tell they love what they do.

Best of all? They have an online store! Be sure to check out their work and see if anything sparks your interest (click here). I will say, the pictures hardly do them justice! Next time you’re in Breck, be sure to stop on in to Global Candle Gallery!

How To : Grow Out Your Hair – 10 Hair Saving Tips and Tricks

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

I may not be the most creative when it comes to hair care, or style, but I wanted to share some tips and tricks that I have used/currently use to help my hair healthy. In my senior year of high school, I decided to change up my hair style by chopping it just below my chin. Yikes. Does not suit my face shape. So, I’ve spent the last 5 or 6 years working on growing it back out as healthy as I can. Up until about a year ago I had been consistently dyeing my hair, so that did not do me any favors, but I managed to keep my hair in good condition. (And when I say consistently I mean every 2-3 months to keep my red hair as vibrant as I could.) Nothing I have to say is original or groundbreaking but they are all tried and true methods I keep my hair long, healthy, and shiny.

  1. Organic Coconut Oil

Coconut oil literally has a million uses but my favorite is to use it as a hair mask. I keep one can in the kitchen and one can in the bathroom. I do a coconut oil mask once if not twice a week to keep my hair moisturized and silky soft. About a half hour before I jump in the shower, I like to coat the lower half of my hair in coconut oil and throw it up in a bun. *Make sure you spend a little extra time washing it out of your hair or you’ll be in for an oily mess!

  1. Not Washing My Hair Every Day

This is key to growing out your hair and I can’t tell you how many people don’t know this trick or don’t use it. Normally I can stretch my hair out to only having to wash it every 3-4 days. Of course, this habit didn’t start over night, I had to “train” my hair to be able to go this long between washes. When you shower every day you strip your hair of the natural oils it produces and therefor dry it out. However, when you wait a few days between washes your hair has time to retain the oils it needs. Of course, my hair isn’t flawless for the days in between washes but dry shampoo DEFINITELY helps.

  1. Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is a product I reach for everyday and I go through more cans of this than I do normal shampoo. My favorite brand is Batiste because their dry shampoos work the best for my hair and they also have a product that has a brown tint in it. If you have used dry shampoo before, you know it can tend to cause a bit of a white cast on your hair. The brunette tint makes it so much easier to just spray and go!

  1. Horse Shampoo

It sounds strange but bear with me. Using Mane ‘n Tail added at least four inches to my hair over the course of the SUMMER. Just a few months! Why do horses get the best products!? I don’t know what is in it but it is absolute MAGIC.

  1. Shampoo Twice, Condition Once

Shampooing twice kind of goes hand in hand with not washing your hair every day. Shampooing twice helps get all of the product washed out of your hair and really gets it clean. Just like taking your makeup off works better when you cleanse twice.

  1. Organic Argan Oil

After getting out of the shower, I like to towel dry my hair and apply an oil while it is still wet and my pores are still open. I use about a dime size amount all over the ends of my hair to help prevent split ends. Most of the natural oils you produce stick closer to your roots so concentrating oils on the ends of your hair is extremely beneficial.

  1. Wet Brush

I avoided this product for a while because I thought it was kind of gimmicky. But I’m so glad I gave in and tried this out! This brush is everything to me! I used to avoid brushing my hair and just throw my hair up in a bun because it was too painful or hard to deal with. This brush doesn’t tug on my knots and makes me feel like my hair is less of a nightmare.

  1. Avoiding Heat Products

When I can, I try not to use heated products on my hair to avoid further damage. This is a lot easier to do since I don’t wash my hair every day; so I can stretch my curls for longer and only have to do small touch ups.

  1. Heat Protectant

Whenever I do use heat on my hair I definitely make sure to use a heat protectant. Using heat on your hair is so bad for it but my natural hair looks like hot mess of a lion’s mane.

  1. Regular Trims

I try to practice what I preach when it comes to this. I know getting consistent trims is a great thing to keep hair healthy; but, it still pains me to see the hairdresser take scissors to my hair. Getting usual trims helps keep your ends from splitting and therefor helps it grow longer. It takes longer to see results than just letting it grow for years and years, but you’ll thank yourself when you don’t have to get 5+ inches cut off all at once!
