Today I wanted to talk about the fun stuff that comes after the wedding, the honeymoon! Planning your wedding is hard enough. Don’t add another stressor by planning your honeymoon too. Relying on a travel agent will relieve your stress and will also get you amazing deals. Here’s my main reasons I highly recommend getting a travel agent.

Fast

They can plan your whole trip within the time it’s going to take you to find decent airfare pricing. This is also a great benefit for procrastinating brides. 😉

Cheaper

They’ll find you the best rates for airfare and your stay. I’m not kidding when I say that our travel agent got our trip to cost literally half as much than when I was just looking on my own. This fact alone makes it a homerun in my book!

Free Service

They’re free to get you the best deals? No contest.

Packages

Packaging your flights and your stay not only helps the price go down but it also makes life much easier. Having your entire itinerary planned out by someone else will enable you to enjoy your vacation all the more!

Expertise

You can know exactly where you’d like to go or just know you want a beach (like I said to our travel agent) and they will pair you up with the best place for you. They are very familiar with the resorts that they send you to so you can trust that you’re getting your dream honeymoon no problem!

Wedding Wednesday – Picking The Date

How fitting to have this be the first post of this love filled month! Let’s talk about the very first wedding planning you’ll do after the excitement of the engagement has worn off. I don’t think many people realize that picking the date is such a huge part of the planning. Depending on the time of year, it will dictate the location, color schemes, flower season, outfit choices, EVERYTHING. Here are some helpful tips to help you narrow down the 365 days you have to choose from!

Convenience

This goes for you as well as your guests. You may want to wait until after graduation, or making sure you get married before you move across the country from your family, etc. As for your guests, if you or some of your most important family/friends are still students, waiting for summer/spring/winter break may be a good choice to avoid overcomplicating schedules. Making sure you take all the big milestones into consideration for yourself and your guests will ensure you all have a great time!

Season

Depending on the climate you live in may very well have a major role to play in selecting your date. If you are like me and hate the snow, having a winter wedding may not be for you. The season will dictate where you will have your wedding (indoor vs outdoor), what your guests will wear, and who may be able to make it (if you select the blizzard months your guests may not make the drive).

Significance

If you have any dates in mind that you would love to use for their significance, those would be a top choice. Your anniversary, Valentine’s Day, your grandfather’s birthday that you wanted to honor.

Colors

Many young girls dream of their wedding and Pinterest has made that habit all the easier over the years. You may have a color scheme in mind that you have decided you need to have. Depending on the colors, you may be limited to certain seasons where those colors look the best.

Spatiality

Another factor you may want to consider is the space between your wedding and other large holidays, birthdays, or other weddings. The last thing you want to do is overwhelm yourself, and others, by squeezing in too many events in such a short span.

All of these factors won’t apply to everyone because everyone’s opinions and tastes differ. Some people may want a wedding on a large holiday or may not care which season they get married. Wedding Wednesday – Picking The Perfect Bridesmaid Dresses

Yes, it is your day, but don’t forget that your ladies said yes to being a part of it. Make sure they look just as great as you do! Picking a great choice for them will ultimately make your wedding pictures turn out so much better with a cohesive look. Be conscious and considerate when picking out your girl’s dresses by following a few important guidelines.

Style

The first and one of the most important things to consider when selecting your ladies’ dresses is the style. Making sure that their style coincides with your dress is key to making your wedding party look flawless. If you pick a tight lace dress and then dress your girls in a heap on tulle, that’s not going to look harmonious on your big day. If you pick that tight lace dress, put your girls in a dress with some lace detail. If your dress is strapless, putting your ladies in a strapless might look like a great fit. Find something about your dress that stands out and that can easily be translated to your girl’s dresses.

Form

If the aspect of your dress you’d like to translate to your ladies’ dresses is something to do with the form, be sure to check that all your girls feel comfortable and can pull off that form. If you’ve got some busty bridesmaids, maybe strapless dresses aren’t such a good idea. No one wants to pull up their dress every five minutes and you don’t want that to see that in every picture either! Talk to your girl’s and get their thoughts! If you have some that don’t feel comfortable with a skin tight or a short dress, definitely take their opinions into consideration. It’s your day but you already have your dream dress. Let them be comfortable for your big day!

Color

Obviously take into consideration the color! That’s the major one everyone will notice first! If you’re letting your girls go pick out their own dress and just giving them a color requirement, you may want to think twice. There are so many different shades of a single color and don’t want to find out on your big day that the bridesmaid’s dresses don’t match!

Details

Now to the fun part, all the gorgeous details! Give your girls a fun belt that is similar to yours, add a simple cover up with the same lace that your dress is made of, add a jewel incrusted pendant with your wedding colors to add a special pop to their dresses.

Whatever you decide on, make sure you and your girls love it. It’s going to be a much happier process and a much happier day if you are all comfortable and happy! Happy wedding planning to you all!

Wedding Wednesday – 10 Registry Items You Will Forget You Need

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

The registry is supposed to be one of the least stressful parts of the wedding. Online shopping where you don’t have to spend any of your own money? YES PUH-LEASE! I know making the registry sounds simple enough but you’ll find that you forgot a few essentials. Yes, grab your pots & pans, your towels, and your new blender. But here are ten things I know most of you will forget to grab that are a must!

Steamer

Irons & ironing boards are bulky, heavy, and really just take up too much room. Do yourself a favor and pick up a steamer! They’re much easier to use (so no more “I don’t know how to iron” from hubby) and compact enough that you can travel with them!

Luggage

Speaking of travel, get you and your new hubby some nice new luggage for the honeymoon!

Sewing Kit

Mom isn’t going to be there for you and hubby to sew a button back on or patch a jacket in a pinch. Sewing isn’t as hard as you think it is. I think you’ll find that this kit will really come in handy!

Patio Furniture

You may have everything picked out for the inside of your home; but, be sure you don’t forget the outside. Get a cute small patio set that you and hubby can enjoy dinner or a drink outside.

Tupperware

By now, you’ve accumulated an unnecessary amount of plastic Tupperware from mom, dad, grandma, and not to mention your hubby’s family. Ditch the old well-used stuff and get some of the nicer glass Tupperware.

Clothes Hangers

Your wardrobe is about to double with the addition of your spouse. You’re going to need more hangers! I’m always scowering the house looking for extras!

Set of Tools

Every new home needs a good set of tools. You can’t imagine how many things you’ll have to repair and tweak along the way! At least pick up a small set of tools for the small stuff.

Comforter

Odds are, you’re still using the same comforter that you’ve had for years. Do the both of you a favor and get a new one that you can both enjoy! (Same goes for the sheets. I’m sure your hubby would appreciate not having to sleep on your hot pink sheets you’ve had since high school.)

Grill

Because everything tastes better when it’s grilled. Your hubby will love it so much that you’ll get out of having to cook! Make him the grill master!

Safe

You both have so many important documents so please please be sure you keep it safe! Get a nice safe and be sure to keep it somewhere out of sight. You’ll definitely thank yourself in the long run!

Wedding Wednesday – Is A Traditional Wedding For You?

Today’s blog is going to be more of a wordy post about a topic not discussed much (at least not where I am from). This Wedding Wednesday post is dedicated towards choosing between a traditional vs a non-traditional wedding. This topic has been on my mind for quite some time and I thought it was time to put it all down in writing for those of you who have the same mind set as I do.

To me, when I think traditional wedding, I think of a chapel ceremony then retiring off to a large venue with those awful ceiling drapes and multi-colored lighting. Food buffet as far as the eye can see. A cake that stands taller than you (even in those gorgeous heels you spent way too much money on). With all your friends and family (that weird second cousin you’ve met twice in your life, your mom’s aunt that you met when you were 18 months old but are obligated to know their name, and all the friends you’ve promised to invite along the way).

When I got engaged, that was the wedding I started planning. I made arrangements and signed contracts. I absolutely LOVE planning so I was a nonstop machine, checking things off of my to-do list left and right! Until, one day I sat down with my fiancé and we started talking about what we envisioned from our “big day”. That’s when I/we realized. Why in the world was I planning this big traditional wedding? We aren’t flashy people. We can’t hold a smile or conversation that long with so many different people. We weren’t even fans of larger crowds. So, why?

At that point we both realized that the wedding we were planning, wasn’t ours. Lots of calls and cancelled contracts later we finally had a sigh of relief. By this time, we had already been engaged for a year and a half (yes we were initially planning on a long engagement) and were over waiting. We wanted to get married now! We sent out the bat signal to our family members and a few close friends and decided to get married almost immediately.

Can I just tell you how many people were taken aback by our non-traditional ways? I can’t tell you how many people asked if we were pregnant, if we were moving, etc. For some reason, people couldn’t just wrap their minds around the fact that this style was more our personality. But once my fiancé and I had talked more openly to everyone about why we changed it and how we felt about the whole ordeal, suddenly everyone understood and everyone said that this smaller wedding “seems more our style”. Why was it that no one understood our decision before explaining our thoughts? If it was “so us”, why was their question at all? If everyone knew a small wedding was more our pace, why did no one throw up a red flag and say, “Guys, I really think you really need to think about planning a smaller wedding!” Because going smaller is not the norm nowadays.

When it was all said and done, our small wedding cost us less than (or at least as much as) JUST the venue for the larger event. (Yeah, not joking. That’s how disgustingly expensive weddings are.) Now that our big day has come and gone, I can confidently tell you that we had an even better time than I previously thought possible with the big event. The smaller intimate ceremony allowed us to feel more comfortable talking about our feelings in front of other people (which neither of us are too keen on). And having the smaller reception let us have a blast with some of our favorite people. We were able to spend more time with everyone than have to constantly make rounds to talk to every.single.person. I think the guests enjoyed themselves more as well. A more laidback smaller setting allowed our guests to feel more comfortable as well. It really seemed like a big party instead of making it into this big formality.

I wish my fiancé and I had sat down months prior to starting the planning. I’d be lying if I said that societal norms didn’t take control of my subconscious as I went through the motions of planning a larger wedding. So, I urge you brides out there to sit down with your partner and really think and imagine your big day. Planning A wedding is so much different than planning YOUR wedding. Once we envisioned bits and pieces of what we saw our day looking like, the decision was simple. My point is, learn from our mistake. Take your time to run through what you, as a couple, see your day looking like. What you both feel comfortable with. Everything always works out. Happy wedding planning to you all!

Wedding Wednesday – The Makeup Look

I am so pleased with the look I gave myself on the big day and how well it lasted all day and night! I picked up a few new products to use for this day and was more than pleased with their performance. A few of them I will even repurchase again. Let’s take a look at the steps I went through to achieve it.

Cleanse

One of the most important steps in the makeup process that deals with nothing but makeup. I used my Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Control cleanser for this.

Moisturize

Following the cleanser, I applied a small amount of my Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer to make sure my skin stays hydrated all day. I love using this moisturizer for daytime use because it’s so lightweight and seeps into the skin quickly.

Prime

After giving my skin some time to soak in the moisturizer, I went in with my Benefit Porefessional focusing the majority of the product in the center of my face and working my way out. I always use this product when I know I’ll have my picture taken throughout the day. I love it and have repurchased it a few times

Eyeshadow

I knew I was going to be creating a rather smoky looking eye for the big day so I started with my eye makeup. I used my Too Faced Natural Eyeshadow Palette to create the look. Afterwards, I cleaned up the edge with a bit of makeup remover to give it a crisp edge. The look I went with is very similar to my Everyday Eye Makeup Tutorial except I used some of the darker shades in the palette for a more dramatic look.

Lashes

I used my trusty eyelash glue with these new Vegas Nay lashes to give the look the extra wow factor. I loved the look of these lashes. Many people asked if I had gotten eyelash extensions for the big day. I topped it off with my old L’Oréal Carbon Black Waterproof mascara just in case some crying happened throughout the day.

Foundation

I bought the Hourglass Foundation Stick for the big day and thought it was absolutely amazing! It was extremely high coverage yet looked like my natural skin. I would highly recommend you try it out.

Creams

Then I went in with my cream concealers and contour. I use NYX HD Concealer every day and never regretted using it on my big day. I have a Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer that is way too dark for my pale skin that I like to use for my cream contour.

Powders

After all the creams, I set my entire face with the RCMA No Color Powder and then baked the highlighted portions of my face with it. Next, I went in with Wet n Wild’s dark shade to bronze my face. With my face bronzed, I started contouring with my NYC contour powder. I love this product because it gives a real shadow effect. Wet n Wild’s Mai Tai blush dusted on the high points of my cheeks finished the powder process of this look. I brushed off the baking I did and moved on to the last step.

Setting Spray

Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray finished off the look and locked the whole look into place. I was so pleased with this product and now I can’t imagine my life without it! It helps my makeup survive all day long!

Lips

On my lips I used NYX Lip Lingerie in Push Up. I love this color and I know that this formula wears best on my lips.

Wedding Wednesday – Thank You Tips & Tricks

After your wedding festivities, you’re going to be exhausted. One of the most exhausting tasks is writing out all of the thank you’s to your guests. Anything you can do prior to the big day to help you in the end, I highly recommend doing to help yourself out. I wanted to share a few tips and tricks to make the long process of thank you’s a little more tolerable.

Address thank you’s when addressing invites

I cannot stress enough how much easier this is than having to keep track of a log of every gift you get along with the corresponding address. Your exhausted self be so appreciative of this after the wedding. I highly recommend doing this! It’ll take a little more time up front to write out the addresses on both envelopes but it will save more time and headache in the long run.

Get a stamp for your address

Etsy sells some great custom stamps that you can order to save your hand a bit of hurting. Getting a stamp with your names and addresses is a great idea if you’re in a home that you know you’ll stay in for years to come. That is why we opted out of it, since we are still in an apartment. But I recommend this if you have a large guest list or already in a more long-term home.

Get guest list printed on the envelopes by the company

We ordered all of our invites and thank you’s from Minted. They are an amazing company all around. If you would like to know more, check out my post all about these items. They offer the choice of printing out the guest list on your invites. We did this because it was included in the price of our invites! So great!

Slow down and make the list while opening gifts

Many people get too excited or think “I’ll definitely remember everything”, when opening gifts. I promise you won’t remember. Just write it down. There’s two of you now, have one person open and one person write down what you receive.

Make sure to take your time so you can write everyone a personal note

These people took the time to buy you a gift and sacrifice a day to come help you celebrate something special. Take the time to write them a special something. I promise they will appreciate it!
