My Favorite Accessories

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

No good outfit is complete without accessories! My personal style is rather minimal with the clothing with a larger emphasis on the accessories. I have just about as many accessories as I do clothes! Here are just a few of my favorites that I rotate between regularly.

Floppy Hats

Hats are great for a multitude of reasons but I love them for their versatility. Depending on the style and color, you can style them to blend with all seasons throughout the year. They’re also great on second or third day hair. (Don’t know what I’m talking about? Click here to read about how to take better care of your hair.)

Chunky Necklaces

My all-time favorite accessory to finish off an outfit is a big chunky necklace. Most of my necklaces are short and chunky because I find that they look the best with the majority of my wardrobe. I have cultivated a great group of neutral based necklaces that work with any outfit. Using basic tones of silver and gold are my favorite and add a subtle hint of glam to the outfit.

Bold Earrings

If I’m not wearing a chunky necklace, odds are that I’m wearing a pair of bold earrings. My favorite way to style bold earrings are with a scarf and an up-do. I love the simple statement earring look and think it’s an absolute classic.

Glam Wrist Accessories

Even with all the girly glam of the necklace and earring accessories up by your face, there is always room for more glam throughout your outfit in other areas. I love adding bracelets to outfits and many of the pieces I’m attracted to incorporate some element of glam. I think it’s a great way to tie all your accessories together and complete an outfit.

My Gallery Wall

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Like everything in a home, no project is ever complete. I just wanted to show you where I am in the process of creating my gallery wall. I love gallery walls because they are the easiest and best looking way to display pictures, Knick knacks, and all kinds of decorative items you may pick up along the way. My gallery wall has been a work in progress for about a year so far and I’m really happy with how it’s coming together. I will link all the products I can or at least link similar products.

Downtown Chicago Pictures

My mother actually took these photos years ago on one of her trips there with my sister. I loved the shots so I decided to put them in this simple black frame from Target.

Libra & Cancer Paintings

These are watercolor paintings I did myself actually. I got the idea off of similar pieces from Minted, feel free to buy them here if art isn’t your forte. I ordered the square white frames from Amazon and I love them.

Couple’s Pictures

The idea for this came from Pinterest, of course. It’s a picture of me and my husband our first year and our last year of college with our first college apartment address in the middle. Once I get around to it, I am going to put a copy of that apartment’s key in the center as well. Loved the idea and I can’t wait to see it all come together.

Gold Foil Iowa Map

I ordered this piece from Minted as soon as I found it. I LOVE the gold foil. Minted also has a variety of frames to offer so I just picked up a white one to go with my theme.

Artistic Quote

The small little quote in the blue frame was just a quote I got off of Pinterest paired with a frame I picked up from Target.

Antique Mirrored Arrows

I picked these up recently from Target and I love the three dimensionality it gives to the wall. These are so cute and can be sure all together or separately like I am.

Wedding Quote

This gorgeous piece was actually a wedding gift from my sister. I love it! The poem is one she wrote specifically for us and I think it’s absolutely beautiful! Her creativity never ceases to amaze me.

Family Photo

I love these family photos we took last year with my husband’s family and the blue in their shirts pairs well with the subtle blue theme of the wall.

Gold Hello Sign

I recently picked this up from the Target dollar spot and thought it was a super cute addition. The hello sign can be removed and replaced with a new picture but I like the color of it so I think I’ll keep it for a while.

I hope you enjoyed this little look at my gallery wall and pulled some inspiration to incorporate these pieces in your own home. Let me know down below what your favorite piece was!

Wedding Day Accessories

003

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Happy Wedding Wednesday Everyone! I wanted to talk to you guys about some day of accessories I’ve picked up to bring the whole look together. Since I can’t share the dress yet, the least I can do is show the accessories, right? I’m not your conventional bride by any means. I don’t want something old, I don’t want to borrow something, I don’t want something blue, BUT I will take everything new. J That whole saying just never really made sense to me and I never thought it was something I would actually do, so I didn’t! (Don’t be afraid to break traditions in order to maintain your personality.) Also, can we talk about the garters? What is the point of that? I don’t get it nor do I want it. Just give me the essentials and I’ll be perfectly content. So, that is exactly what I purchased.

Shoes

Wedding shoes are beautiful and extravagant and their prices often reflect that. However, I know myself and I know that as soon as pictures are done, I’m throwing the shoes in the corner and rocking it barefoot all night. (You can call me gross, that’s fine) Heels are beautiful but that beauty often comes at a price! Instead, I opted for a lower heel (three and a half inches is my low) that was neutral enough that I know I would wear after the wedding for everyday occasions. Which is how I found these beautiful little babies. They’re definitely on the plain side but after the wedding celebrations, I can see myself pairing these with a pair of rose colored jeans and a blue and white striped buttoned down blouse. Ugh! I can’t wait to actually get some use out of these! I found these originally on Macy’s but I purchased them on Amazon for the same price (I like Amazon’s return policy more than Macy’s).

Hairpiece

This was too tempting to pass up. I knew I wanted a little something for my hair and knew I needed it to pack a punch of bling. Luckily, the boutique I purchased my dress at, had a variety of selection and this wasn’t too bad of a price! I’m really excited to see this pull together all of my bling on the big day!

Earrings

The bling doesn’t stop there. I got these beauties to compliment the hairpiece. I like the subtly of these earrings. They aren’t over the top and huge (like some of my other earrings can get). They are just enough sparkle! I picked these up at Nordstrom Rack for a great price, considering the brand.

Shopping Haul – Target, Ulta, Michael’s

1.JPG

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

I definitely satisfied my shopping itch this weekend. My wallet isn’t happy, but I am! Like most people, Target always gets the best of me. This haul is definitely an odd mixture of all things décor, clothing, and beauty so let’s just get into it!

Firstly, this shirt…omg it is made of the comfiest material ever. I purchased it this weekend and I’ve already worn it. It’s super cute and super comfortable. This shirt will definitely be one of the most used in my collection and who can argue with that price? Am I right? Target you don’t disappoint.

Cat owners will understand this next purchase. I’ve been needing a jewelry tray to put my ring and earrings in at night. Whenever I put them loosely on my night stand, I’ll wake up to find that my cat took them and hid them…This tray is super cute and I loved the metal mixed with glass.

I was in desperate need of a mascara so I decided to try out a Wet N Wild mascara to add to my cruelty free products. So far, I’m not disappointed! I can’t tell if that is because this mascara actually rocks or if my old mascara was soooo beyond done that anything looks better. I’ll keep you updated.

I picked up two more bottles of the Batiste Dark & Deep Brown dry shampoo because I go through these things like nobody’s business! I like the brunette version much better than the original due to the fact that I don’t have to worry about brushing out the white cast.

I’ve wanted to try out these blushes ever since I saw Casey Holmes rave about them. So I picked up Wet N Wild’s Color Icon Ombre Blush in Mai Tai Buy You A Drink. I’m excited to try this out! I bought it at Target but can only seem to find the purple blush on their website? So I linked the actual color from Wet N Wild.

I couldn’t resist picking up another darker nude liquid lipstick and I’ve been meaning to try the new NYX Lip Lingerie line (mine is in the color Push Up). Dark nudes are definitely my go to year round.

I’m always looking to get my hands on a backup eyebrow pencil. So naturally, I had to pick up some more of my ash brown!

I’ve been looking for a good set of cute letters to display. I’m not quite sure where they’re going to be displayed yet but I love the color and material of these. I just had to have them!

Shirt : Etsy  |  Pants : Charlotte Russe  |  Heels (similar) : Charlotte Russe  |

Scarf (similar) : Glik’s   |  Necklace (similar) : Charlotte Russe

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

These cooler temperatures have me feeling the fall weather! I can’t wait to break out the boots and sweaters. I decided to ease into the changing seasons with these adorable booties and comfy blanket scarf. These booties are my ultimate go-to in the fall and winter. The low chunky heels make them super easy to walk in and it keeps me warmer since it’s ankle high. This scarf is so warm and so big, I’m obsessed with it! I’m partial to blankets and any excuse to “carry” a big blanket around with me all day is gold in my book. I think a fall shopping haul is in my near future. I need some more booties and scarves in my life!

OOTD – Client Meetings

Blazer : Ralph Lauren  |  Pants : Charlotte Russe  |  Heels : Nordstrom  |

Necklace (similar) : Forever 21

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

I’m a big believer of “If it ain’t black, put it back on the rack.” However, when I have to dress business professional, I feel like a boring blob if I wear the typical black corporate pantsuit. Which is why I LOVE this statement blazer. It’s the perfect piece to satisfy my need for color. Of course, the color doesn’t stop there. The shirt and necklace pair so well together that I hardly find myself wearing one without the other. I love the combination of colors here. Finding colors to compliment this neon yellow green color is often a challenge; but, I think this necklace and shirt combination do a fantastic job! I paired these with a white jean and tied it all together with these suede black heels. They’re the perfect height for me, just enough to get the point of a heel across without me having to break an ankle! I love this outfit for when I have a busy day packed with professional clients. Sadly, most of these items where purchased many moons ago and were difficult to find but I think I found suitable dupes. Check them out if you are interested in recreating this look! 🙂
