Why I Started Blogging

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Today I wanted to get a little more personal with you and dive into the biggest question I often find myself asking other bloggers – Why did you start blogging? I love all the different ways that people get into this amazing field.

Going back to where the thought to start a blog all started would be about this time last year. I was at my first ever corporate job working with a program I was well versed in doing the same monotonous job 8-5 every day. For a creative soul like me, it was absolute torture. Every day at work I brainstormed ways to try and satisfy my creative itch. I’ve always watched YouTube vloggers and loved all the fun topics they talk about. However, I’m not much of a video person so I knew that was out of the question. I’ve always enjoyed writing though so I started exploring different bloggers. Just reading all of their thoughts and ideas in such a creative environment really struck a chord with me. I started looking into different blogging platforms and contemplated taking this journey for a few months. At that point, I could barely decide where I wanted to go with my career, let alone hobbies as big or time consuming as a blog.

When the first of the New Year came, I left my corporate job for a smaller more creatively hands on design firm. That satisfied my creative itch, big time. However, I still loved the idea of blogging and getting to talk about whatever I wanted. The creative freedom was definitely hard to pass up. So, in April of 2016, I finally decided to start my blog! I’m so happy that I did. I can’t imagine life without it now. I love interacting with hundreds of people who share the same likes/dislikes as I do in more than just their careers. Sure, I can talk to our vendors about how beautiful a piece of art is or how perfect a sofa is in a client’s home; but, getting to talk about a makeup product that I actually use and am adamantly passionate about is an amazing feeling. Starting my blog was a great outlet to exercise all of my creative freedoms in every aspect of my life.

Even though I’m not in my unstimulating corporate job anymore, I still find myself needing to satisfy my creative itch in other areas of my life. Even though my corporate job did not work out, I’m glad that job pushed me to explore this opportunity and helped me discover one of my now favorite hobbies. I’m a big believer in everything happens for a reason.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post. I would love to know how you got started blogging. Is your story similar to mine? Leave a comment down below. 🙂

Sweater Weather Fall Tag

032

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Today’s weather is hitting me in the fall feels and I came across this tag that I thought sounded fun and totally worked with my mood. I found this on An Endless Weekend’s page (what a great name right?!) so you can hop on over to her page after this to read her tag! Without further ado, let’s do this.

Favorite Candle Scent?

Honestly, I prefer the apple and cinnamon scents over the pumpkin spice. Any candle with either of those scents has my vote!

Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate?

Tea all the way. I love tea and find I flock towards it more often than not. I normally have a green tea everyday and have been trying to incorporate lavender tea into my nightly routine for a better night’s sleep.

What is the best fall memory you have?

Yikes…I guess I don’t have a favorite. Blame it on the bad memory!

Best fragrance for fall?

Best fragrance year round, Dolce. I’m not super into switching up my scents for the seasons.

Favorite Thanksgiving food?

Turkeyyyyyy

What is Autumn weather like where you live?

The weather is just like every other season in Iowa. 70 one day, 40 the next, little rain here, little sunshine there. You never know!

Most worn sweater?

The sweater I featured in this post (New York and Company for those wondering).

Football games or jumping in a pile of leaves?

If by football you mean tailgating and then following that up by watching the game in a bar, then football for sure.

Skinny jeans or leggings?

Leggings, jeggings if I must. I’ll always opt for leggings.

Combat boots or Uggs?

Uggs are so much more comfy, but I found myself not touching them since college. Ugh. Maybe I’ll go break out a pair now!

Is pumpkin spice worth the hype?

Plain and simple. No.

Favorite fall TV show?

I’m a sucker for the CW shows. Netflix just uploaded all of the newest seasons of everything and I’m finding it difficult deciding what to watch!

What song really gets you into the fall spirit?

Spooky Scary Skeletons Remix. You’re welcome. 🙂

What do you want to be for Halloween?

Couple costume with my fiance, Janet Snakehole and Bert Macklin from Parks and Recreation. It’s too perfect for us haha!

Hats or scarves?

Scarves, scarves, scarves

What is you #1 favorite thing about fall?

If I had to pick one, Halloween. Favorite holiday ever!

Apple Cider Mimosa Recipe – With a Twist!

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

I recently saw this recipe floating around the internet and decided that I NEEDED to try it immediately. I love my mimosas and had never contemplated adding in such a fun fall flavor! The recipe is ridiculously simple so I won’t even try to dress it up. Get a cup, some champagne of your choice, and some apple cider. Absolutely AMAZING! Super yummy and super sweet. I definitely couldn’t drink too many of these since they are way more sugary. Next time, I definitely want to try it with some local apple cider (couldn’t find anything but big name brand this time).

The Twist. I brought this drink to an early morning tailgate to share with my family and friends and we decided to kick it up a notch. We added a splash of Smirnoff Raspberry Vodka and that made the drink 10x more amazing. When I say splash, I mean just a splash (less than a shot). We aren’t trying to get too crazy. But the raspberry flavor added such a yummy twist on an already amazing drink. Let me know if you try this out. I’d love to get your thoughts! Enjoy!

How To Save A Broken Candle

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

I hope everyone is having a lovely fall and enjoying the nice change in weather. Being able to turn the AC off and open the windows is such a great feeling to me. I love it! With the cooler air blowing into my house, I realized my candles needed to be switched out to something a little more weather appropriate.

So, this weekend I busted out the fall scented candles! I don’t like pumpkin spice for anything, besides candles. Yes, I know, I am one of the few who hates pumpkin and pumpkin spice. About mid-fall last year I made the plunge and got myself a Scentsy so I had a couple candles left over from last year. Waste not, want not! Those were the first candles I went to grab this season, just to use up whatever was left. However, I noticed that one of my candles had broken in our move last year (UGH!). I’m sure that I’m not the first, nor the last, to have this problem.

So, I’m here today to tell you that all is not lost! For all the candles who have broken, wick wore down, or the scent isn’t as powerful – there is still hope! Go ahead and cut out a chunk of your broken candle and put it in a Scentsy pot. It works just as well as the expensive name brand cubes and it’ll let you utilize the rest of your candle. Don’t give up on your stubborn candles just yet! I know how annoying it is to buy a cheap candle and love the scent but all that burns is the wick. (I like to call them a one and done candle.) Super annoying. But using your Scentsy pot will give them life again! I highly recommend getting one of these pots, especially if you have a growing pile of broken candles. It has been a life saver! Even buying the cult favorites (gimme some of that Marshmallow Fireside!) and breaking it up for the Scentsy is something I often do. It’s a great twist and safer than having an open flame around kids and curious pets! Definitely give it a try and let me know your thoughts. I hope you found this helpful! Subscribe and stick around for more! 🙂

Flashback Friday – Scenic Heaven

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

For those of you who don’t know, I went on a much needed vaca this summer to Colorado. I never got a chance to share all the wonderful views and places I went during my far too short week there. I wanted to take today to share some of my trip with you! I hope you enjoy. If you do, don’t forget to hit that like button! 🙂

One of the first places we always make sure we stop at, Arapahoe Cafe. Food is just as amazing as the views! Be sure to get there early for breakfast to you can have a beautiful seat out on their patio.

The drive/hike up to the top of Mt. Evans always proves to be a gorgeous can’t miss opportunity for us.

This wonderful little town is a hidden gem and can’t miss in my opinion. See my blog here about this place!

Garden of the Gods was a first for me this year. I can’t believe I had never been here before. It was absolutely breathtaking. Being a midwestern girl, I am always amazed by mountains but there is something about this place that gets me in the feels!

The hike up to Lily Pad lake was a gorgeous one and well worth the walk! The pond is so cute and there are plenty of spots to camp or have a picnic on the shores.

I can’t, and won’t, ever forget about visiting my favorite spot in the world (so far). Sapphire Point Overlook is my absolute favorite spot to go to. It’s a great place to just sit and enjoy the scenery. Luckily for us, we stumbled upon a few artists. I don’t blame them for setting up shop here. It’s extremely inspirational and a beautiful backdrop for a studio session.
