My Current Obsession

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

I’ve always been a blue girl since the day I was born! When I was a young girl I had baby blue walls in my bedroom, throughout middle and high school you couldn’t find me without a pair of blue jeans, in college I decked out my dorm room with a bright turquoise, and now today I’m obsessing over the color navy!

I’ve been on a big navy kick for the past few months and I’m not quite sure what sparked it. For my avid readers, you know that when it comes to decorating my home I stray away from color. However, when you saw my living room set up in my Tips And Tricks For Creating Your Dream Living Room, I’ve splurged on a few navy items. The first incorporation of navy in my home were the navy and gold pillows. I saw them at Target and couldn’t resist! Then when I ran across this canvas at Homemakers, ugh. There was no way I could pass that up.

I’ve been noticing myself sway more towards this navy trend in clothing as well. I’ve found myself sorting through sites by that color alone. There’s just something about that color that I think looks so flattering. Probably because, let’s be honest, it’s so close to black. My ultimate go-to color for wardrobe, decorating, and life in general.

As I said, I have no idea what sparked this navy obsession but I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon! What are you guys currently obsessing over? Let me know in the comments below!

5 Tips To Stay Creatively Inspired

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

I often find that the winter months are the months where I lose a bit of creative spark. Something about the unpleasant cold just shuts my brain down! Here are a few tips I like to practice to force those creative juices back to my brain.

Surround Yourself with Creative Positive Individuals

This is something you should always do (get rid of toxic people). Once you surround yourself with these lovely individuals, I think you’ll start seeing an increase in your creative potential. Positive creative people often immerse you in their passions, activities, and engage you in creative conversation.

Use Social Media

There are so many great sites out there with so many creative people. Pinterest, Twitter, Youtube, and various blogging platforms will seriously get you motivated toward creativity. I love binging on social media posts when I’m in need of a little inspiration.

Get Away From It All

On the opposite end of the spectrum, sometimes all the social media can get a bit overwhelming to the point of a creative rut. If you’re finding this to be true with you, take a break. Go for a walk, just shut down all your technology, or go for a quiet drive in the middle of nowhere. I think you’ll be surprised how inspirational our surroundings can be once we shut off all our distractions.

Take the Time for Brainstorming Sessions

Taking five or ten minutes out of your day to just sit with yourself and do some serious brainstorming is great for powering through a creative rut. Often times, when I do this, I’ll find myself sitting with my thoughts for well over ten minutes. Once the creativity starts flowing, it’s often hard to stop!

Keep an Idea Journal

Keeping a journal or, for you tech junkies, an open note app on your phone will be a great help when you get a random spark of creativity. There’s nothing worse than having a stroke of genius but later forgetting it because you didn’t take the time to write it down.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post and got something useful out of it. Leave a comment below about how you power through a creative rut!

Makeup & Skincare Haul Reviews

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

I’ve had these products for a little over a month now and I feel like I’ve used them all enough to give a good review on my thoughts/experiences. I’m overall very pleased with all my purchases which I was expecting. I tried to research the products to the best of my ability since most all of these products were for my big day. So, without further ado, let’s get into the products.

Origins Active Charcoal Mask

This mask has been great and I feel like it’s actually doing its job. My face feels so much better after using it. I definitely don’t use it more than once a week; so, I’ve worked it into my weekend pamper routine and I’m thoroughly enjoying it!

RCMA Powder

I don’t know why it took me so long to try this! This powder is amazing. I’ve been using it to bake my under eye area and lightly dusting it all over my face to set my foundation. It looks so natural and keeps my concealer from creasing under my eyes. Amazing product and I highly recommend it!

Hourglass Stick Foundation

I used this foundation the week prior to my wedding and on the big day itself. It was an amazing full coverage foundation that wore well throughout the day. It photographed beautifully all day and night. However, I did return it to Sephora afterwards because I prefer a more natural foundation for my day to day life. I don’t attend many extravagant events that would prompt me to keep it around. If a beautiful full coverage is what you’re looking for, I highly recommend this product.

Sephora Collection Pro Press Full Coverage Complexion Brush

This brush is amazing and paired so well with the Hourglass Stick Foundation, which was my intent when purchasing it. With taking back the Hourglass foundation, I also returned this. I prefer my Born This Way foundation application with my trusty Beauty Blender. I was sad to see this brush go; but, again, I had no need for it to just sit around in my makeup collection

Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray

I’ll definitely be repurchasing this product again and again after I use it up. I’ve been using it every day after I’m done with my makeup. It blends the powder so well into the foundation that no matter how much makeup you pack on, you won’t look cakey. Love this stuff!

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Frill Seeker

This color is to die for and my ultimate go-to when I’m painting my nails. The formula was great as well! I used this polish for my toes on the big day and the color is still on! I’m very impressed! I’m eager to see how well it lasts on my fingernails once I need to repaint them. I’ll keep you updated!

Vegas Nay Lashes in Easy Elegance

As I said in my previous post, these lashes are the perfect amount of wispy and fluffy. They looked amazing. I had many people ask me if they were real or eyelash extensions. I didn’t use the eyelash glue that came with the lashes; instead, I used my trusty Ardell clear glue. I look forward to trying more Vegas Nay lashes in the future!

I had a lot of winners in this haul (thank goodness). It’s always a great feeling to add more essential products to the arsenal. I hope you enjoyed learning a little more about these products and I hope you try some out. Let me know in the comments below if you have any recommendations for me to try out next!

Why I Started Blogging

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Today I wanted to get a little more personal with you and dive into the biggest question I often find myself asking other bloggers – Why did you start blogging? I love all the different ways that people get into this amazing field.

Going back to where the thought to start a blog all started would be about this time last year. I was at my first ever corporate job working with a program I was well versed in doing the same monotonous job 8-5 every day. For a creative soul like me, it was absolute torture. Every day at work I brainstormed ways to try and satisfy my creative itch. I’ve always watched YouTube vloggers and loved all the fun topics they talk about. However, I’m not much of a video person so I knew that was out of the question. I’ve always enjoyed writing though so I started exploring different bloggers. Just reading all of their thoughts and ideas in such a creative environment really struck a chord with me. I started looking into different blogging platforms and contemplated taking this journey for a few months. At that point, I could barely decide where I wanted to go with my career, let alone hobbies as big or time consuming as a blog.

When the first of the New Year came, I left my corporate job for a smaller more creatively hands on design firm. That satisfied my creative itch, big time. However, I still loved the idea of blogging and getting to talk about whatever I wanted. The creative freedom was definitely hard to pass up. So, in April of 2016, I finally decided to start my blog! I’m so happy that I did. I can’t imagine life without it now. I love interacting with hundreds of people who share the same likes/dislikes as I do in more than just their careers. Sure, I can talk to our vendors about how beautiful a piece of art is or how perfect a sofa is in a client’s home; but, getting to talk about a makeup product that I actually use and am adamantly passionate about is an amazing feeling. Starting my blog was a great outlet to exercise all of my creative freedoms in every aspect of my life.

Even though I’m not in my unstimulating corporate job anymore, I still find myself needing to satisfy my creative itch in other areas of my life. Even though my corporate job did not work out, I’m glad that job pushed me to explore this opportunity and helped me discover one of my now favorite hobbies. I’m a big believer in everything happens for a reason.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post. I would love to know how you got started blogging. Is your story similar to mine? Leave a comment down below. 🙂

Shirt : Target  |  Pants : Charlotte Russe  |  Heels  : Charlotte Russe  |

Hat : Nordstrom Rack  |  Flannel : Forever 21

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

This weekend I wanted to play around with fall looks that incorporate lots of pattern and texture. I loved this super comfy outfit. It looks well put together and fashion forward while still allowing yourself to wear leggings and a big comfy tee. I love looks like this and they are normally my go-to outfits. I picked up this hat at Nordstrom Rack this past week and needed to find an outfit to wear it with immediately. Super cute! I’m very glad I purchased it and I think I’ll get lots of use out of it! (And I think the little one likes it too!)

Sweater Weather Fall Tag

032

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Today’s weather is hitting me in the fall feels and I came across this tag that I thought sounded fun and totally worked with my mood. I found this on An Endless Weekend’s page (what a great name right?!) so you can hop on over to her page after this to read her tag! Without further ado, let’s do this.

Favorite Candle Scent?

Honestly, I prefer the apple and cinnamon scents over the pumpkin spice. Any candle with either of those scents has my vote!

Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate?

Tea all the way. I love tea and find I flock towards it more often than not. I normally have a green tea everyday and have been trying to incorporate lavender tea into my nightly routine for a better night’s sleep.

What is the best fall memory you have?

Yikes…I guess I don’t have a favorite. Blame it on the bad memory!

Best fragrance for fall?

Best fragrance year round, Dolce. I’m not super into switching up my scents for the seasons.

Favorite Thanksgiving food?

Turkeyyyyyy

What is Autumn weather like where you live?

The weather is just like every other season in Iowa. 70 one day, 40 the next, little rain here, little sunshine there. You never know!

Most worn sweater?

The sweater I featured in this post (New York and Company for those wondering).

Football games or jumping in a pile of leaves?

If by football you mean tailgating and then following that up by watching the game in a bar, then football for sure.

Skinny jeans or leggings?

Leggings, jeggings if I must. I’ll always opt for leggings.

Combat boots or Uggs?

Uggs are so much more comfy, but I found myself not touching them since college. Ugh. Maybe I’ll go break out a pair now!

Is pumpkin spice worth the hype?

Plain and simple. No.

Favorite fall TV show?

I’m a sucker for the CW shows. Netflix just uploaded all of the newest seasons of everything and I’m finding it difficult deciding what to watch!

What song really gets you into the fall spirit?

Spooky Scary Skeletons Remix. You’re welcome. 🙂

What do you want to be for Halloween?

Couple costume with my fiance, Janet Snakehole and Bert Macklin from Parks and Recreation. It’s too perfect for us haha!

Hats or scarves?

Scarves, scarves, scarves

What is you #1 favorite thing about fall?

If I had to pick one, Halloween. Favorite holiday ever!

Apple Cider Mimosa Recipe – With a Twist!

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

I recently saw this recipe floating around the internet and decided that I NEEDED to try it immediately. I love my mimosas and had never contemplated adding in such a fun fall flavor! The recipe is ridiculously simple so I won’t even try to dress it up. Get a cup, some champagne of your choice, and some apple cider. Absolutely AMAZING! Super yummy and super sweet. I definitely couldn’t drink too many of these since they are way more sugary. Next time, I definitely want to try it with some local apple cider (couldn’t find anything but big name brand this time).

The Twist. I brought this drink to an early morning tailgate to share with my family and friends and we decided to kick it up a notch. We added a splash of Smirnoff Raspberry Vodka and that made the drink 10x more amazing. When I say splash, I mean just a splash (less than a shot). We aren’t trying to get too crazy. But the raspberry flavor added such a yummy twist on an already amazing drink. Let me know if you try this out. I’d love to get your thoughts! Enjoy!
