Football Saturday Snack

Football season is upon us! Weekends are now ruled by tailgates and parties to watch the big games. If you’re as busy this season with parties, food, and plenty of drinks; then, I think you’ll want to check out this yummy appetizer to bring to your next event. My normal tailgating go-to snack to bring is Buffalo Chicken Dip but, with every weekend needing something yummy, I decided that we needed to change up the menu. So, I came up with this yummy fresh recipe that is also easy finger food (PERFECTION!). I love this recipe because it’s a twist of the usual veggie & dip. I love the portability and, of course, how yummy it is!

What You’ll Need : (makes enough for 8 people)

1 – 8 oz can of crescent rolls

1 – 8 oz package of cream cheese spread (I chose chive & onion)

Veggies of your choice (I used carrots, broccoli, and red peppers)

How To Assemble :

Leave your cream cheese out in a room temperate room for about an hour prior to baking. It’ll be much easier to spread.

Spread your crescent rolls out flat on a non-stick pan and bake for the recommended time.

While those are cooking, start chopping all your veggies.

Once your crescent rolls are done baking, take them out and let them cool.

When your crescent rolls are cooled down, put your cream cheese spread over top. Sprinkle your vegies on top throughout.

Store in the refrigerator until you’re ready to eat!

July Fourth Sweets

Happy Fourth of July weekend everyone! I hope you’re all having a fun and safe weekend so far. I wanted to throw out this super yummy recipe for you all to try this holiday weekend. This weekend is known for the BBQ’s, outdoor parties, and coast-side get togethers. With that being said, I think skewers are the perfect remedy for those parties on the go. This recipe is super easy, super delicious, and a very sneaky way to get your kids to eat a bit of fruit. This disassembled strawberry shortcake is a great add to whatever party you’re going to this weekend!

Ingredients :

1 box Angel Food Cake Mix (for those on a time crunch, like myself)

2 boxes of Strawberries

2 cups of White Chocolate Chips

This recipe is super simple and only takes about an hour or two to assemble. While your cake is baking, wash and prepare your strawberries. After baking your cake according to the box directions and letting it cool, cut your cake into 2” squares. Assemble the strawberries and cake on the skewers alternating them. Then go ahead and melt your white chocolate chips and drizzle on top. Put them in the fridge to set and you’re ready to pack them up and bring them with you on the go! Super simple and very delicious.

Cooking For Beginners – Hello Fresh Review

It’s been quite a while since I posted (technically only four days but it feels like an eternity)! I wanted to catch you guys up on what new fun things have been going on in my life. The first, and most entertaining thing, which we tried out recently was Hello Fresh. For those who may not know. Hello Fresh is a food delivery service that puts together quick and healthy meals using fresh ingredients that are all delivered straight to your door. This was my first time ever trying out one of these services and it was so much fun! Of course, you get to choose which meals you want them to ship you that week; but, I didn’t look too closely at the recipes so it was always a fun surprise to open each day’s box. I’ll run you through the various meals we chose and which our favorite was. Stay tuned to the end to hear my final thoughts on Hello Fresh!


Cherry-Drizzled Pork Chops

Yum, yum, YUM! I think this meal was my favorite of the bunch. It was definitely a different take on the pork chops than we usually see here in the Midwest. I thought the cherry drizzle was an interesting take on the savory sweet meal. Definitely a keeper!


A Caesar Salad To Rule Them All

One of the most delicious and filling salads I’ve ever had. I’m definitely going to recreate this again! It filled me and my husband up (yes, salads aren’t just for ladies!) so much that we even had a bit left over for lunch the next day.


Vietnamese Marinated Steak

This was such a different style dish than my husband and I are used to eating but we loved it! If there’s steak involved, it’s usually a winner for my husband. I loved the mix of flavors together. The pickled salad was so good!

For a very beginner cook, like myself, I found it a little overwhelming balancing all the different things going on in the kitchen. But strictly sticking to Hello Fresh’s recipes and step by step instructions, it definitely calmed my worries. All in all, we were so pleased with our Hello Fresh box! (No, I’m not sponsored in any way.) We genuinely thought this was a great service. We could definitely see using it again in the future for those weeks that you know are going to be busy. It was great to not have to shop, buy the perfect amount of ingredients, or surf Pinterest for hours looking for great healthy meals. I highly recommend trying it out!

Movie Night Basics

The weekend is finally here! Has this week been the longest one of 2017 yet? I think so… For those who follow me on Twitter, you know I zoomed through the final season of The Vampire Diaries last weekend. (If you don’t follow me on Twitter, you definitely should!) Start to finish, crushed the last season in one weekend. Am I proud of it? No. Am I glad I did it? YASS!

With binge watching late into the night, sometimes the cravings kick in and I wanted to share with you my favorite combination lately. The mixture of salty and sweet is the classic winning combo and this is how I like to combine the two! I’m loving the Organic Chocolate and Love Sea Salt & Caramel chocolate right now. So yummy! I’d definitely give it a try because this chocolate on its own has your salty and sweet. But it wouldn’t be a proper binge watching marathon without the good old fashioned popcorn. Sadly, I didn’t have any kernels on hand (I normally like to pop my own popcorn for a healthier option) so I went for the lightly buttered microwaveable pouches I had on hand. I always top off my popcorn with Tone’s Popcorn Seasoning and I love it!

Asian Salad Recipe

Working in an office that is too far away from my house to come home for lunch has definitely taught me to plan ahead and get creative when it comes to my packed lunches. Last week I decided to try out a new recipe and I really enjoyed it! I tried out a quick and easy Asian Salad recipe. I whipped this together in less than 20 minutes Sunday night and it made enough for my whole week. I just packaged it all up in Tupperware and grabbed it quick every morning. Bonus fact, it was super cheap to make this recipe so the fact that it lasted the whole week was insane!

Here is what you’ll need :

One bag of Dole Coleslaw Mix

Two packages of Oriental Style Ramen Noodles

One small can of Mandarin Oranges

Handful of Sliced Almonds

1/3 cup of White Vinegar

1/3 cup of Vegetable Oil

Salt & Pepper to taste

How to whip it all up :

Combine the salt, pepper, vegetable oil, white vinegar, a dash of the mandarin orange juice, and oriental style ramen powder.

Mix the coleslaw, uncooked ramen noodles, drained mandarin oranges, & almonds.

Combine the two mixtures and stir it all together.

Inside My Tea Cabinet

I love me some tea! I have at least one glass of tea a day because it’s great for you and I love the taste. I have a few different varieties of tea that I like to keep on hand at all times. I wanted to show you which ones I like and why I can’t live without them!

Lipton Pure Green Tea 100% Natural

This is tea is a major part of my morning routine. I used to rely on coffee and energy drinks to get my morning boost but I found that they triggered my anxiety too much. Weening myself off of those highly caffeinated drinks was not an easy task. However, once I switch over to natural green tea, I found myself not missing them at all. I love the natural boost of caffeine that this tea gives me. I can’t go through my morning without it!

Traditional Medicinals Organic Chamomile with Lavender

This is my tea that I will normally choose after a stressful day or just winding down for the night. The chamomile and lavender are great for relaxing a busy mind. I love this tea if I’m needing a bit of calming down.

Pompadour Chamomile

This tea also contains chamomile but I use this one for an entirely different scenario. When I was younger, my dad always used to give me this tea when I had a sore throat or an upset stomach. Of course I was younger and not quite accustomed to the natural earthy taste of tea so he would sneak in some honey. When I have a sore throat now I prepare myself the same tea. I find it does a great job soothing my throat.

Traditional Medicinals Organic Roasted Dandelion Root

This last tea is one I’ve repurchased now again and again. Recently, the new trend is the detox teas that you see celebrities promoting all over the internet. I found my own, cheaper, version of their detox tea. Dandelion root is a great natural way to detox. I use this whenever I’ve maybe eaten too much (aka Thanksgiving and Christmas festivities) or when I’ve eaten not so healthy. I highly recommend this tea for those of you who want the effects of a big name brand detox tea but don’t want to spend the money.

What I Ate Today

You guys know I love my smoothies! The smoothie I made this morning was similar to all my other breakfast smoothies I like to make. I add one frozen banana, (TIP : If you have any bananas that go bad before you eat them, pop them in the freezer to enjoy in smoothies. Peeling them and putting them in a Tupperware makes this process easier) assorted fruits, spinach, and a little almond milk for creaminess. I love this smoothie and it’s packed full of fruits and veggies. The fruit does a great job at masking the spinach taste so be sure to sneak in a larger amount of greens.

I have a full time job so I have to pack my lunch every day. I normally like to bring a plethora of healthy food/snacks to tide me over all day. Most days, I’ll get hungry again around 10 am so I’ll either have a banana or apple. For my lunch today, I packed a turkey wrap, broccoli, and the fruits you see here (whichever I didn’t eat for my snack earlier). This normally tides me over until I get home. I’ll leave you a link here for the turkey wrap I made on this day.

The only pasta dish I can get my husband to willingly eat, Chicken Parmesan. This is one of my go-to simple dinners when I don’t want to overthink it. I’ll thaw a couple chicken breasts the night before and can come home and knock out this cooking in less than an hour. It’s simple, easy, and delicious! Sweater Weather Fall Tag

Today’s weather is hitting me in the fall feels and I came across this tag that I thought sounded fun and totally worked with my mood. Favorite Candle Scent?

Honestly, I prefer the apple and cinnamon scents over the pumpkin spice. Any candle with either of those scents has my vote!

Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate?

Tea all the way. I love tea and find I flock towards it more often than not. I normally have a green tea everyday and have been trying to incorporate lavender tea into my nightly routine for a better night’s sleep.

What is the best fall memory you have?

Yikes…I guess I don’t have a favorite. Blame it on the bad memory!

Best fragrance for fall?

Best fragrance year round, Dolce. I’m not super into switching up my scents for the seasons.

Favorite Thanksgiving food?

Turkeyyyyyy

What is Autumn weather like where you live?

The weather is just like every other season in Iowa. 70 one day, 40 the next, little rain here, little sunshine there. You never know!

Most worn sweater?

The sweater I featured in this post (New York and Company for those wondering).

Football games or jumping in a pile of leaves?

If by football you mean tailgating and then following that up by watching the game in a bar, then football for sure.

Skinny jeans or leggings?

Leggings, jeggings if I must. I’ll always opt for leggings.

Combat boots or Uggs?

Uggs are so much more comfy, but I found myself not touching them since college. Ugh. Maybe I’ll go break out a pair now!

Is pumpkin spice worth the hype?

Plain and simple. No.

Favorite fall TV show?

I’m a sucker for the CW shows. Netflix just uploaded all of the newest seasons of everything and I’m finding it difficult deciding what to watch!

What do you want to be for Halloween?

Couple costume with my fiance, Janet Snakehole and Bert Macklin from Parks and Recreation. It’s too perfect for us haha!

Apple Cider Mimosa Recipe – With a Twist!

I recently saw this recipe floating around the internet and decided that I NEEDED to try it immediately. I love my mimosas and had never contemplated adding in such a fun fall flavor! The recipe is ridiculously simple so I won’t even try to dress it up. Get a cup, some champagne of your choice, and some apple cider. Absolutely AMAZING! Super yummy and super sweet. I definitely couldn’t drink too many of these since they are way more sugary. Next time, I definitely want to try it with some local apple cider (couldn’t find anything but big name brand this time).

The Twist. I brought this drink to an early morning tailgate to share with my family and friends and we decided to kick it up a notch. We added a splash of Smirnoff Raspberry Vodka and that made the drink 10x more amazing. When I say splash, I mean just a splash (less than a shot). We aren’t trying to get too crazy. But the raspberry flavor added such a yummy twist on an already amazing drink. Let me know if you try this out. I’d love to get your thoughts! Enjoy!

Autumn Treat – S’mores Muffins

Cooler evenings have me yearning to start a fire and roast some marshmallows! However, I walked by this little beauty in the store the other day and decided to see if it would satisfy my s’mores craving. Now it has my asking, where have these been my whole life? S’mores muffins are probably the most ingenious idea ever. These are SO yummy. I just got mine from the local grocery store in their bakery section. So, now that I’m hooked, I decided to take to the internet to find some yummy recipes. I found a super simple and easy to follow recipe on Busy Moms Helper that I’ll definitely need to try. I also found a yummy sounding recipe that adds bananas on Inside Bru Crew Life’s blog. Of the two, I’m leaning more towards the recipe that includes bananas. I think that would make a super yummy addition to these treats. But I’m definitely going to be trying both of these this fall/winter season. They would be such a cute treat to bring along to a party or event this season. If you try them too, let me know how you like them!
