Weekend Adventures

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

I don’t know about you guys but this nice weather has me feeling extra energized. Finally I can see a light at the end of this winter-ridden tunnel! This weekend, with the amazing weather we were experiencing, I decided to do some exploring. My sister was down for this adventure as she loves hiking and going on adventures more than I do! We drove out into the country and came across this amazing little reservoir. We spent a couple hours just exploring the bank on foot and cruising through the park around it. We came across this fallen tree overhanging the lake and it was just too cute of a photo op to pass up!

It was such an amazing and relaxing day! I love going to new places that I’ve never been to and just taking the time to wander and explore. Getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life or even the monotonous of suburbia is such a breath of fresh air. Getting out into places where you’re likely to not pass another person is such a great feeling. Not quite the Colorado mountain hike we are accustomed to but we couldn’t ask for better in the Midwest.

I hope you all are having a great week and enjoying the weather before it takes a turn for the worst again!

Flashback Friday – Scenic Heaven

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

For those of you who don’t know, I went on a much needed vaca this summer to Colorado. I never got a chance to share all the wonderful views and places I went during my far too short week there. I wanted to take today to share some of my trip with you! I hope you enjoy. If you do, don’t forget to hit that like button! 🙂

One of the first places we always make sure we stop at, Arapahoe Cafe. Food is just as amazing as the views! Be sure to get there early for breakfast to you can have a beautiful seat out on their patio.

The drive/hike up to the top of Mt. Evans always proves to be a gorgeous can’t miss opportunity for us.

This wonderful little town is a hidden gem and can’t miss in my opinion. See my blog here about this place!

Garden of the Gods was a first for me this year. I can’t believe I had never been here before. It was absolutely breathtaking. Being a midwestern girl, I am always amazed by mountains but there is something about this place that gets me in the feels!

The hike up to Lily Pad lake was a gorgeous one and well worth the walk! The pond is so cute and there are plenty of spots to camp or have a picnic on the shores.

I can’t, and won’t, ever forget about visiting my favorite spot in the world (so far). Sapphire Point Overlook is my absolute favorite spot to go to. It’s a great place to just sit and enjoy the scenery. Luckily for us, we stumbled upon a few artists. I don’t blame them for setting up shop here. It’s extremely inspirational and a beautiful backdrop for a studio session.

July Hot Spots

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Summer means getting out to enjoy the weather, friends, and some good drinks. Today I wanted to share a few of my favorite locations to get just that. I’ve been enjoying wandering around and exploring all of the fun things Des Moines has to offer. I love living near such a big city because I find that no matter how much I go exploring, I can always stumble upon something new! So, without further ado, here are a few of my new favorite hot spots for this summer!

The Rooftop in downtown Des Moines is my favorite summer spot. They have a great menu, great location, and everyone says they have the best Moscow Mules in the city! So do you really need to hear any more? It is a smaller location so it tends to get a little packed so if you’re looking to get in and get a seat I’d recommend trying an early lunch. They’re in such a great location that you can make a day of shopping afterwards! Fair warning, there is little to no coverage from the sun so be sure to dress appropriately. Because you’ll be frying in the sun! (Gotta look out for my pale girls out there!)

The Juice Company is such a cute little hole in the wall place in Des Moines that I never would’ve found if it wasn’t for a friend. I’m so glad she opened my eyes cause this is the cutest little smoothie and juice shop I’ve seen! There’s just something about seeing all of the fresh fruits laying out that gives me a better feeling about what I’m putting in my body. (Because you know that cheap smoothie from a fast food chain is just some frozen chemical filled nastiness.) One of their most popular items is a wheat grass shot, they have tons of this grass all around their shop (so cute!). I’m not brave enough yet to try it but be sure to let me know how it is if you are!

Wellman’s Pub and Rooftop has a special place in my heart because if there is anything better than drinking outside, it’s drinking on a rooftop. They have such a big venue with so many different spaces to really suit everyone. Their outdoor patio area on the first floor is beyond adorable and the large awning really helps on days when the sun is pounding down. Their food is amazing and I always tend to lean towards their wraps because they all sound so good! The drink menu is just as extensive and amazing. I feel like they always have WAY too many tempting drink specials going on. (Makes it very difficult to choose!)

Send me your favorite hot spots so I can try something new! And don’t forget to let me know if you try out one of my favorites! 🙂
