New Home Progress

First time homeowners taking on a 1950’s fixer upper, what could go wrong?

Honestly, we had it easy in comparison. Fixing up a home is just a very large project to take on and takes up ALL of your free time (or time you thought you had free). With our professions, sometimes coming home to a huge fixer upper can be overwhelming. Overall, it’s been a lot of fun and a great ease into the home ownership game. I honestly would not have done it any other way!
When we began our first home search, let’s just say I was VERY prepared. During the first meeting with our realtor I showed up with a very thorough list of needs/wants & a dozen homes I’d saved on Zillow. Our realtor was…I’m not sure if I would use the term scared or impressed. Either way he did amazing dealing with my crazy and helped walk us through this foreign concept of owning property. I knew with my design background & my husband’s general construction background we could take on a home that needed some love. Ain’t nobody got time for a flip house; but, we could definitely take a rough home that had potential and turn it into a home. Our current house, for whatever reason, called to me as that perfect blend. One tour, hours of online stalking, and we were in love!
Before we even had the keys, I had our future house’s floor plan drafted and had already begun designing it to it’s full potential.
Hi, hello, I’m fully aware that I’m crazy.
Mood boards, shopping lists, floor plans. My absolute favorite. The day we got the keys, we cleaned first of all (so gross) then promptly painted the whole house. Yup, no small task but a MUST before our furniture even arrived on site! The house was a rainbow of dark bold colors and I couldn’t stand it. Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray to the rescue! We used this same color throughout the house and it looks amazing. It’s the perfect gray for this home to blend the original hardwoods into present day trends. Although painting was a big task, it was hardly the biggest we had in mind for the house. You’ll see in many blogs to come that each area of the house, inside and out, was updated. From replacing lighting, to moving walls, to gutting the kitchen – you name it! I’ll walk you through the various projects with pricing breakdowns to show you just how easy it can be!
As far as first time homeowners go, I think we nailed it with this house! It’s an adorable house from the 50’s that we were able to give some much needed love. It was just what we were itching for and I can’t wait to see what journey we tackle next!

I’m Back Baby!

Well, that was one h*ll of a hiatus. Did you miss me? I missed all of you wonderful people. I can’t believe it’s been almost TWO YEARS since my last post. Yikes!

Last time I updated you on here, I had just purchased my first home. And, being the introverted home-body that I am, decided to sprint full force into remodeling and updating the house. It took over my life and gave me less than optimal time to dedicate towards this blog. I’ve been steadily posting on my Instagram throughout my hiatus (shameless IG self promotion here) so hop on over there to stay updated on the day-to-day.

As I go through the different seasons of my life, I like to write about what components of my life take the most precedence. Which is basically my way of saying, the wedding posts are over! I’ll create a round-up for all you brides to be (or just obsessive compulsive planners) for easy reference. This season of my life is an all encompassing home decor, remodeling, and DIY influence. So, gear up and get ready for all the juicy tips and tricks I’ve been cataloging along the way.

I’m back, I’m ready, and I’m eager to share with all of you!

I’m planning on bringing you guys along with me during the remodeling journey so be sure to let me know down in the comments if that is something you’d like to see! I’m excited to transform this quaint little house into a gorgeous bungalow that we can enjoy for years to come!

We Are Officially Homeowners

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Guys, am I really posting this right now? I can’t believe this moment is finally here. I am so excited to officially announce that we are homeowners! What!? Where did my childhood go? Who let me adult? Who cares, I own a house! I’m so incredibly excited and grateful that my husband and I could pursue this big milestone. We are beyond ready to start making this house a home and you can tell our four legged friends are pumped about the whole ordeal as well.

And before you ask, this house may have multiple bedrooms but that by NO MEANS suggests that there will be any need to fill them. So stay out of here with that baby talk!

A big thank you to all the people who helped us along the way. We really were children going into this with no concept of how this process works or any of the changes in the transition from renting to owning. Of course, with a big life change like this, I’ll be writing many posts about the process for the months to come so stay tuned!

For those who don’t know or those who are new, I’m a full time interior designer so I’m more than ready to sink my claws into this project! Leave me a comment below and let me know if you’d like to see before/after pictures as we design our home!

My Dream Home Office

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

I hope you all are having a wonderful day! I’m back with the fifth installment of this working girls week. I wanted today to give you all some inspiration for your office, be it at the office or at home. I’m sharing with you today some of my dream office designs. All of these images came from a wonderful little obsession of mine (Pinterest). If you haven’t checked out my Pinterest, be sure and do so to check out what other neat ideas I’ve stumbled upon!

I know what you’re thinking, “Wow, another dark and dramatic space! How original! Didn’t see that coming.” But hey, I know what I like. I’m just here to share it with all of you. 🙂

Dark, dark, dark. For all the work I do at home, I’m hardly ever doing anything besides typing away on my laptop. There’s no need for a light and airy space since I’m just staring into a bright screen all day/night. I love the dark tones, bold pops of metals & colors, and striking patterns. I think built-in shelving adds a great wow factor and allows for lots of storage (or in my case, lots of shelves to accessorize). It’ll definitely be my little sanctuary and truly inspiring space to create in. A girl can dream right? 😉

Color Me Impressed x Arhaus

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Recently I was challenged by Arhaus to create my dream living room using whatever products I’d like. As an interior designer, you could ask me any given day and I could describe just what that dream space looks like to me. When I started thinking about this project, I visited their website and found many of the pieces I had been dreaming about. So, today I’m sharing my dream living room using all Arhaus products. If you’re an avid reader of mine, you’ll remember how I’ve been crushing on navy and pungent blues lately. I found some really great pops of this color within their line and I’m head over heels! My dream living room is a lush and chic blend. I don’t dabble with too much color, other than this bright punch of blue. I love to rely on metals & textures to speak more than color. You’ll see a huge influence of golds used throughout the space and I must say that it was all inspired by these jaw dropping sheer gold metallic curtains. They’re so unique and I’m obsessed.

I am relatively new to this brand but I must say that their selection is wide and their products are gorgeous! I fell in love with a few of these pieces I used today so I’ll be sure to leave their information linked in this post. Be sure to check out this brand and shop ‘til you drop! If you want to design your own dream living room be sure to check out their living room page to be sure you don’t miss out on anything! (For all you ladies out there on a budget, check out their clearance for some of their great pieces for cheaper.)

Bedroom Décor Poll – Help!

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

With a moving date on the calendar for later this year, I’ve got a major itch to redecorate with the moving transition. I know my overall colors and theme I want to achieve but as an interior designer by profession, I’m exposed to many different styles every day. My main problem is that I fall in love with so many different style and aesthetics. I need your help to decide which way I should go with my new décor!

Tumblr Inspired Haven

If this style doesn’t scream Tumblr, then I don’t know what does. I love the bold navy accent wall and darker accents used throughout.

Light & Glam Oasis

This look so elegant and light and airy. I love the idea of using all neutral lighter tones and then using navy only in the accents as a stark bold punch of color.

Now that you’ve seen my two inspiration rooms, tell me what you think! Leave me a comment below and help me decide which way I should go!
