How To Keep Your Wedding Ring Pristine

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

You got the ring, now what? It’ll stay beautiful and radiant for the first couple weeks (probably because you’re so attached to it that it never leaves your finger). After that point, you’ll start to notice it dulling a bit. I’m here to help you keep it pristine from the very beginning. Bad habits are easier to break when you don’t start them. Here are my biggest tips for keeping that gorgeous rock clean and stunning for years to come!

Cleaning It Regularly

Basic, I know. When you wear it day after day you don’t notice how dull your ring can get. Diamonds glisten and gleam even when a bit dingy so you won’t be able to tell how dirty it actually is until you get yourself on an actual schedule. I use the Connoisseurs Jewelry Cleaner in Precious. I love this cleaner and notice a significant difference after cleaning it. It takes 30 seconds and makes a world of difference! I clean my ring every other week or two. Make sure to read the instructions on the cleaner you use so you don’t damage your ring by cleaning it too much.

Knowing When To Take It Off

Do I ever WANT to take this gorgeous thing off? No. Do I know when I NEED to take it off? Yes.

I make sure to take it my ring off when I’m doing anything strenuous on my hands, anything messy (even if that’s just washing my hands or light cleaning around the house), and even sleeping. Sleeping is a big one for me. I bought my husband and myself cute little ring holders that we both keep on our nightstands. You don’t realize (since you’re obviously sleeping, duh) that you put your body in awkward positions and maybe you even lay on your hands. Wear like that over time can cause prongs to come loose. Yikes!

Staring At It

It’s the most expensive accessory I’ll ever own. I mean, it’s probably the most expensive piece I’ll put on my body – PERIOD! Of course I’m going to be staring at it constantly. Another reason to be keeping an eye on your jewelry is so you can easily detect when something seems wrong. You’ll be more apt to notice diamonds coming loose or, God forbid, missing. If you are keeping an eye on your ring, you’ll be able to get it into a store to be fixed before any real damage.

Wedding Day Accessories

003

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Happy Wedding Wednesday Everyone! I wanted to talk to you guys about some day of accessories I’ve picked up to bring the whole look together. Since I can’t share the dress yet, the least I can do is show the accessories, right? I’m not your conventional bride by any means. I don’t want something old, I don’t want to borrow something, I don’t want something blue, BUT I will take everything new. J That whole saying just never really made sense to me and I never thought it was something I would actually do, so I didn’t! (Don’t be afraid to break traditions in order to maintain your personality.) Also, can we talk about the garters? What is the point of that? I don’t get it nor do I want it. Just give me the essentials and I’ll be perfectly content. So, that is exactly what I purchased.

Shoes

Wedding shoes are beautiful and extravagant and their prices often reflect that. However, I know myself and I know that as soon as pictures are done, I’m throwing the shoes in the corner and rocking it barefoot all night. (You can call me gross, that’s fine) Heels are beautiful but that beauty often comes at a price! Instead, I opted for a lower heel (three and a half inches is my low) that was neutral enough that I know I would wear after the wedding for everyday occasions. Which is how I found these beautiful little babies. They’re definitely on the plain side but after the wedding celebrations, I can see myself pairing these with a pair of rose colored jeans and a blue and white striped buttoned down blouse. Ugh! I can’t wait to actually get some use out of these! I found these originally on Macy’s but I purchased them on Amazon for the same price (I like Amazon’s return policy more than Macy’s).

Hairpiece

This was too tempting to pass up. I knew I wanted a little something for my hair and knew I needed it to pack a punch of bling. Luckily, the boutique I purchased my dress at, had a variety of selection and this wasn’t too bad of a price! I’m really excited to see this pull together all of my bling on the big day!

Earrings

The bling doesn’t stop there. I got these beauties to compliment the hairpiece. I like the subtly of these earrings. They aren’t over the top and huge (like some of my other earrings can get). They are just enough sparkle! I picked these up at Nordstrom Rack for a great price, considering the brand.

Shopping Haul – Target, Ulta, Michael’s

1.JPG

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

I definitely satisfied my shopping itch this weekend. My wallet isn’t happy, but I am! Like most people, Target always gets the best of me. This haul is definitely an odd mixture of all things décor, clothing, and beauty so let’s just get into it!

Firstly, this shirt…omg it is made of the comfiest material ever. I purchased it this weekend and I’ve already worn it. It’s super cute and super comfortable. This shirt will definitely be one of the most used in my collection and who can argue with that price? Am I right? Target you don’t disappoint.

Cat owners will understand this next purchase. I’ve been needing a jewelry tray to put my ring and earrings in at night. Whenever I put them loosely on my night stand, I’ll wake up to find that my cat took them and hid them…This tray is super cute and I loved the metal mixed with glass.

I was in desperate need of a mascara so I decided to try out a Wet N Wild mascara to add to my cruelty free products. So far, I’m not disappointed! I can’t tell if that is because this mascara actually rocks or if my old mascara was soooo beyond done that anything looks better. I’ll keep you updated.

I picked up two more bottles of the Batiste Dark & Deep Brown dry shampoo because I go through these things like nobody’s business! I like the brunette version much better than the original due to the fact that I don’t have to worry about brushing out the white cast.

I’ve wanted to try out these blushes ever since I saw Casey Holmes rave about them. So I picked up Wet N Wild’s Color Icon Ombre Blush in Mai Tai Buy You A Drink. I’m excited to try this out! I bought it at Target but can only seem to find the purple blush on their website? So I linked the actual color from Wet N Wild.

I couldn’t resist picking up another darker nude liquid lipstick and I’ve been meaning to try the new NYX Lip Lingerie line (mine is in the color Push Up). Dark nudes are definitely my go to year round.

I’m always looking to get my hands on a backup eyebrow pencil. So naturally, I had to pick up some more of my ash brown!

I’ve been looking for a good set of cute letters to display. I’m not quite sure where they’re going to be displayed yet but I love the color and material of these. I just had to have them!

How To : DIY Jewelry Holder / Coat Rack

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

What better way to kick off this creative journey than to start with a super simple DIY that adds a beautiful custom accent to your home. If you live in a smaller home or an apartment, like I do, you know how difficult it is to come by decent counter space in a bathroom. I didn’t have adequate counter space for my necklace display so I began thinking of other methods of storing them. Many people overlook wall space as being used for storage, but it is something I rely on in my home. Arranging my bathroom wall as a gallery wall serves as something pleasing to look at while being functional. That being said, I turned to Pinterest to find inspiration. I quickly found a concept I enjoyed and began working on tweaking it to my taste.

Here is what I used to make this DIY necklace display system:

Many of these products I had floating around my kitchen or garage so the only items that needed to be purchased were the hooks ($15) and the picture hanging teeth ($5). So, this DIY costed me a total of $20! How amazing is that?! Plus it isn’t a time consuming process at all.

Here is what I did:

  • I created the DIY aged stain mixture and set that aside to mix together for a few days.
  • While the stain mixture was set aside for those few days, I took care of some of the busy work. I made sure to place my order on amazon for the hooks and picked up the picture hanging teeth. Also, make sure you measure your wall area and necklaces to see how big of a piece of wood you will need. Once I measured, I cut the wood down to the ideal size.
  • Once my stain mixture was ready, I painted one layer onto the piece of wood.
    • *Be sure you do this outside, preferably in a garage. The lovely smell of vinegar is rather potent!*
  • The next day I checked on the stain and gave it another coat to darken it to the shade I wanted.
  • Once completely dry I nailed in the picture hanging teeth to the back and screwed the hooks onto the front in the pattern I desired.
  • The last step is to hang it and ENJOY!!

I am obsessed with how this turned out and I appreciate it all the more because I did it myself. The price tag is definitely a plus too! 😉 Keep in mind that this DIY can be used for a variety of different purposes. I used mine for necklaces but also explore its uses as a coat rack, a decorative way to string picture frames from, etc. If you decide to try this out, let me know your results!
