Welcoming Home the Peanut

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Today I’ve got some fun (and furry) news to share! We have added to our family and recently welcomed home this little kitten, Beanie.

Getting To Know Beanie : We have had the little one for such a short amount of time but I feel we are getting to know her very well. Mostly because she follows us around constantly and is almost always touching us in one way or the other. She has little knowledge of personal space and would much rather lay up on your neck than on your lap. Beanie is a fan of 5 minute power naps then 15 minute play hard sessions. She’s constantly under our feet and demanding attention (with a cute little meow like hers, I can’t say no). And lastly, she is obsessed with her older sister, Leila.

Fitting In : This sweet little black and white beauty is fitting in great with our family and we are so excited to have her. We adopted her from a local shelter about a week or so ago and are just starting to get into a routine. For those who don’t know, we have an older kitty Leila who is just over 3 years old. Leila wasn’t too sure about something so small and rambunctious. However, we are finally getting to know each other and realizing that it’s kind of fun to have someone else to hang out with! We heard lots of little kitty-cat paws running around all of last night and even found them playing around with each other a bit. Beanie is watching her older sister day in and day out. She’s easily and rapidly becoming Leila’s little shadow. We have been searching for a little kitten for Leila to hang out with for a while now. (My husband and I both work full time jobs and feel that Leila’s personality needs a friend.) I’m so glad we found this little knucklehead! I think they’ll grow up great with each other!

The Name : My family has a bit of a tradition when it comes to animals. As I’m sure many of you agree, your pets really do become family. Whenever a beloved pet passes, we get a new animal and give them a name to honor the former. For those who may not know, I lost my sweetie a month ago. One of her many nicknames was Bean-head (LONG story haha). I felt that with this new little kitten, she exemplified many of the traits I found in my Bean-head when I adopted her. Thus, the name Beanie came to fruition. I think the name suits her well and we’ve already given her many other nicknames along the way – like “stop that”, “get away from there”, etc….just kidding! J

Be sure to keep stopping on by to see more pictures as we get to know this little peanut more. I’m sure there will be much more (as I can’t control my crazy cat-lady traits) and we can’t wait for all that’s to come!

Where I’ve Been

Hello you, and welcome (back) to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

I’ve missed you guys so much! This month has seriously been one of the most hectic rollercoasters to date. I haven’t been able to put as much time and effort towards blogging as I’d like to but I’m here to tell you that this break is coming to an end. I’ve got some upcoming posts that I’m excited for you guys to see! More to come later this week about that but for now, let’s recap what’s been going on in my life this month.

Work, work, work. (For those who don’t know, I do have a full time job as an interior designer.) Seriously been putting in those overtime hours. We have been getting more work than I thought we could handle! I’ve got a pretty great group of ladies I work with, thank goodness because I don’t know how we would handle all we’ve taken on without each and every one.

RIP. I lost my precious little cutie this month which put a bit of a damper on my mood. It wasn’t really something I wanted to be reflected in my posts and my creativity took a bit of a dive as well. It’s all for the best though and it’s all part of a bigger plan.

1

Adulting. Something I’m not too great at but something that’s quite fun at the same time. My husband and I have been spending quite some time figuring out where we want to go after our lease ends. Turns out it’s more complicated than it sounds (who would’ve thought haha). We are now facing the tough decision of whether or not to buy a home at this point. If you have any advice, I’d love to hear it in the comments below.

I hope this caught you up to speed as to where I’ve been this month. I definitely want to say a big thank you to every single one of you who have stuck around and put up with my absence. You are all amazing! 🙂

Anjou Essential Oil Review

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Essential oil diffusers are a huge trend that is seen everywhere nowadays. And for good reason! I just finished up my large sample pack that I ordered along with my diffuser. I purchased my diffuser around Christmas last year and use it religiously! It’s become a HUGE part of my night routine. I find it so relaxing and helps me sleep so much better. I’ve recently started bringing my diffuser out into my living room to keep the good vibes and relaxing scents going all day! I may to purchase another solely for the living room so I don’t have to keep moving it around so much.

I have nothing but good things to say about the Anjou diffuser I purchased and, consequently, the same goes for their oils. I have been loving their line. I just repurchased the same sample pack that came with my diffuser from Amazon. I used up every single oil and loved each and every one. I’ll leave a link here to a post where I tell you my favorite essential oil combinations so you can give these a try if you buy this pack. Like I said earlier, I got this same pack about six months ago and just recently ran through it all. I’d say that’s a pretty good life span for these oils for being used all night every night! I’m eager to break into my next sample pack and to branch out in the future and try out other oils.

Leave me a comment below if you’d like to see my night routine!

How To Grow Your Blog Following

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

It’s one thing to start blogging your thoughts all over the internet; but, if you want to grow your following and reach a wider range of people, you definitely have to up your game. If you follow my blog religiously, you’ll know that I’ve done a 5 Most Important Tips For New Bloggers post before. Today I wanted to get more in depth for how to grow your blog, no matter how advanced of a blogger you may be. It’s always great to continue learning and growing so I hope you all enjoy these tips below!

Passion, Purpose, Persistence

I always like mentioning this in my blogging tips. If you aren’t liking how something is turning out or you aren’t passionate about the subject you’re writing about, don’t do it! Skip a post because skipping it is much better than keeping your schedule with an insincere post. As you grow as a person, you may find that the subject you started blogging about five years ago just isn’t a passion anymore. Ditch it and rebrand! Don’t be afraid to stay true to yourself and your interests because that will always pay off in the long run!

Use Your Angle

There is an over saturation of people willing to express themselves on the internet. It’s true! Want to start a beauty blog? Done a million times. Turning vegan and want to blog about the journey? You’re not the first. But don’t let any of that get you down! You need to find a special twist to put on your blog that can help you define a more specified following. Try beauty blogging on a hair-thin budget or your journey as a vegan for working moms. Your place in life, no matter what it is, will give you a unique angle on the over saturated media. Give it a try!

Get Involved

Donating your time and effort can help everyone out. Try getting involved in a charity or drive. Blog your experience and what charities you choose to support. It will benefit the charity you donate to, benefit your readers by educating them to some great causes, and will benefit you by tagging the charity in all your promotions (they love hearing wonderful things from people and are more likely to help promote your post). It’s a win, win, win situation that everyone can get behind!

Unique Ideas, Views, Experiences

Remember what I said about over saturation? Writing with unique views or about strange things will help you stand out against the many on the internet. If your lifestyle gives you access to a plethora of odd opportunities or experiences, write about it! People love learning about different things and living vicariously through others.

Personality

Don’t be ashamed of your quirky antics or the important things that make you, you! People love to hear your personality come through in your blogs. If you cuss like a sailor with no remorse, you’ll find an audience who finds hilarity and truth through the vulgarity. If you’re absolutely obsessed with something and find a way to make almost anything relate to that subject, you’ll gain people most like you who share your passions. Don’t hide your true self!

Tips For Starting Your Mornings Off Right

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

I don’t know about you, but I have never been a morning person in my life. Mornings have always been the worst part of the day for me. However, I’ve learned to make these tips a routine staple and they’ve definitely made mornings a much more pleasant experience. I highly recommend incorporating some in your morning routine!

Make sure your alarm is out of arm’s reach

Start a morning tradition that gets you excited to wake up

Do all the tedious stuff the night before – outfit selection, packed lunch/snacks, pack your bag

Get a routine in place

Natural light always helps – open the blinds

This wraps up my week-long series for all you working girls out there. I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I loved writing them. Leave me a comment below to let me know if you enjoyed this mini-series and if you’d be interested in seeing more in the future!

Look Into My Lipstick Collection

NYX Lip Lingerie   |  Tarteist Lip Paint  |  NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

Sephora Rouge Shine   |  Revlon Super Lustrious Lipstick

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream  |  Revlon Colorburst Lip Balm

Maybelline Color Sensational   |  Nars Velvet Matte Lip  |  Covergirl Colorlicious

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

My lip collection isn’t too big and there’s a very good reason for it. I don’t wear too many different shades! As you’ll be able to see from my swatches, I either go dark and sultry or extremely nude. I don’t have much of an in between. My everyday go-to lip color is of course the nudes. I only break out the dark or red shades for special events! My current favorite right now is this NYX Lip Lingerie in the shade Push-Up. They have a great formula and I’m planning on getting some more shades here soon.

Leave me a comment below and tell me what your favorite lipstick is at the moment!

How To Judge If A Company Is The Right Fit

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Job searching is hard enough; however, by far the hardest part is after you’ve been offered the position (or multiple positions). You can accept any job you’re offered but the key to work space bliss is accepting the right job for you. It can be really difficult to determine what exactly your preferred work environment is but hopefully the following list will be a good guideline.

Ask yourself a series of questions and see what is important to you and what your feelings are :

  1. What is the size of the company?
  2. How many people do you interact with on a daily basis?
  3. Who is your superior?
  4. How do you envision your relationship with your superior?
  5. How do you envision your relationship with your coworkers?
  6. Is the environment fun? Stuffy? Corporate? Unique?
  7. Are you getting to do what you love in this new position?
  8. Do you see the possibility to grow and better your skills here?
  9. Does this company promote from within or do they outside hire?
  10. If this isn’t your dream job, will this job get you closer to where you want to be long term?

If you can answer those ten questions, you will have a very good grasp on whether or not you’ll enjoy working for a company. Don’t get discouraged if some of your answers don’t favor the company you’re considering. Odds are, you won’t find your 100% perfect company right away. That will take time and experimenting with different positions to settle on a job you really do enjoy, in an environment that you love.

Leave me a comment below and tell me if you considered any of these questions when accepting your current job. If not, would it have benefited?

Job Search Tips & Tricks

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

You didn’t think I would leave this topic out, did you? It’s not fun to talk about, let alone have to go through it. One of the most stressful tasks is finding and applying for a new job. It’s definitely not a fun task but I think this list will help ease the stress of job searching! I think all you graduates looking for your first job will benefit from some of these tips.

Trial & Error

The first cover letter or resume you make, will be far from your last. You’ll discover a constant cycle of doing and redoing these documents for every place you apply. Not every job you apply for will want, or require, the same set of skills or background so you’ll find yourself needing to constantly customize your documents. Spending the time to personalize your documents to the specific company you’re applying for will earn you major points. Showing them that you took the time to look into their company and you understand exactly what they are looking for is a great way to lock in an interview.

Organization

I have an Excel document from past job searches that I found EXTREMELY helpful. I would type in the company, person’s information in charge of hiring, the date I sent in my resume, a date to follow up with them, the interview dates, and a date to send thank you’s, etc. It was my life-line while job searching. I highly recommend going the extra mile to keep yourself organized. That way you make sure you don’t miss any steps along the way.

Thank you

This is a great way to lock in some extra points. Consider sending a thank you email immediately following your interview (because odds are, you are one of many interviews that day), mail a handwritten thank you, or even dropping of some thank you goodies. All are great options and will definitely help you to stand out from the rest of the applicants.

Persistence

This is key. Persistence shows dedication to their company and will keep you somewhat near the top of their inbox. This is why I make sure to keep some columns in my organizational chart to make sure I’m following up every week or two with potential employers. The difference between persistence and annoyance is often a fine line but when done successfully, will increase your odds.

Be Bold

If you receive the dreaded rejection email saying something basic like “we are going in another direction”, this opens the door to one last opportunity you have with that company. Be bold and ask them what you can do better for next time. Even if you aren’t going to apply for any more positions within that company, it’s great information to better yourself and help you lock down the next job!

Leave me a comment below and tell us if you use any of these tips yourself!
