Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Obsessive Compulsive Designer is officially turning 1 year old today and I’m beyond excited. I cannot believe that it’s been a whole year since I started this journey. I’m so thankful for every one of you who read my posts and follow me. I can’t begin to thank you all enough for the wonderful words and support this past year. I have really enjoyed this hobby and will continue for as long as you all are willing to listen to my ramblings. 🙂

Today I wanted to share one of my all-time favorite posts I have published this past year. Coincidentally, it has been one of your favorites as well! My outfit post in Girl’s Shopping Trip OOTD has been one of my most searched & interacted with posts, and for good reason. It’s one of my favorite outfit posts I’ve ever featured on here. It gets me so motivated to post more fashion posts! I love putting together outfits for you guys and showing you how to style certain pieces.

Again, I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to all you lovely people! You all inspire me so much and get me so motivated to get creative in all aspects of my life. I love you all! 🙂

Current Obsession – Calligraphy

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

You know I love sharing my recent obsessions with you. This new obsession is something I’ve discovered through Instagram. I’ve fallen in love with watching calligraphy videos. I’m an artsy person but OMG I seriously don’t know how these artists write so beautifully. It’s honestly mesmerizing to watch. I sit on Instagram binge watching these videos and then all the sudden it’s an hour later. But I LOVE it! I’ll link my favorite account here. I highly recommend creeping on the page because they always tag the artists and give them credit for their work (which I really appreciate)! I’d love to try out calligraphy, until I remember how much of a perfectionist I am. I feel like I wouldn’t have the patience to practice my writing that much. What do you guys think? Should I give it a try?

Color Me Impressed x Arhaus

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Recently I was challenged by Arhaus to create my dream living room using whatever products I’d like. As an interior designer, you could ask me any given day and I could describe just what that dream space looks like to me. When I started thinking about this project, I visited their website and found many of the pieces I had been dreaming about. So, today I’m sharing my dream living room using all Arhaus products. If you’re an avid reader of mine, you’ll remember how I’ve been crushing on navy and pungent blues lately. I found some really great pops of this color within their line and I’m head over heels! My dream living room is a lush and chic blend. I don’t dabble with too much color, other than this bright punch of blue. I love to rely on metals & textures to speak more than color. You’ll see a huge influence of golds used throughout the space and I must say that it was all inspired by these jaw dropping sheer gold metallic curtains. They’re so unique and I’m obsessed.

I am relatively new to this brand but I must say that their selection is wide and their products are gorgeous! I fell in love with a few of these pieces I used today so I’ll be sure to leave their information linked in this post. Be sure to check out this brand and shop ‘til you drop! If you want to design your own dream living room be sure to check out their living room page to be sure you don’t miss out on anything! (For all you ladies out there on a budget, check out their clearance for some of their great pieces for cheaper.)

Lavanila Deodorant Review

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Let’s talk about a less than glamorous product today, deodorant. Last month I purchase the Lavanila deodorant to replace the basic name brand deodorant I was using. Once a lovely friend of mine recommended it to me and explained why she purchased it, I threw my old deodorant away immediately.

*Ignorance is bliss, yes? Well, if you’d prefer to stay ignorant to the dangers of your deodorant ingredient list, please exit this post now. Fair warning J

Go ahead and grab your deodorant and read the ingredient list. I’m assuming you won’t be able to pronounce half of the chemicals. All those nasty chemicals seep into your skin and with the location being a little too close to the ta-ta’s makes me nervous. Cancer studies are done on all of the nasty chemicals and some are finding a link to breast cancer. NO THANK YOU. I’d rather go natural and safe than risk anything in that department.

I’ve been working on transitioning to more ethical and natural products so I’m very happy with the change I’ve made with this product. I like Lavanila as a brand because they make their products very transparent. There’s no guessing on ingredients and the company’s methods. Natural, vegan, and cruelty free. What more could you ask for? But as always, do your own research before buying anything. I bet you’ll be as disgusted as I was when I read into my old deodorant ingredient list.

I’ve noticed that this deodorant isn’t as strong as the old one I was using. Mostly because Lavanila isn’t crammed full of harmful chemicals that interfere with your body. It definitely works and does it’s job, don’t get me wrong. I love this product and will continue to purchase it in the future! I highly recommend you try it out.

3 Biggest Benefits of a Smaller Wedding

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Trying to decide between a small or large wedding? Trying to convince your fiancé to go with a small wedding? Trying to explain to family and friends why you aren’t doing a big event? Look no further. Here are the only reasons you need!

Save Money

Spend thousands of dollars on a venue you’ll be in for less than twelve hours? Spend hundreds on food for everyone? Spend hundreds on flowers that will wilt in a couple days? Spend thousands on a dress you’ll only wear once? Spend hundreds on save the dates, invitations, and thank you’s that people are just going to throw away? I’m sorry. Do I need to continue?

More Intimate Occasion

Because nothing says thank you for being here and celebrating this incredibly intimate event of our lives like timed rotations to everyone at the reception to force a bit of small talk before moving on to the next person. This is such a huge day for the both of you, be sure to enjoy it by inviting your closest family and friends. Less people to talk to means you get to enjoy each other’s company more (and actual enjoy your day).

Less Pressure & Stress

Planning a wedding is like a full time job by the time you factor in finding the inspiration, finding local companies that can bring your inspiration to reality, price shopping local vendors, touring and meeting with vendors, and putting all the final little details on everything. If it wasn’t hard work, they wouldn’t have professionals you could pay to do all of it for you! Take some of the stress off of yourself and plan a smaller event. All of this craziness doesn’t even encompass the craziness of family. You may feel pressure from one or more family members, or soon to be family members, on what they envision your day looking like. The pressure to live up to everyone’s likes and dislikes can be overwhelming!

When it all comes down to it, my biggest point to make with this post is to really just streamline your event and make it the fun easygoing day you want. Having a smaller event really allows you to put your full attention to detail in other aspects of your day. Spend the day enjoying the smaller company you invited, save some money, and be less stressed. Who could want more than that?

March Lifestyle & Beauty Favs

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

March was a very busy month and feeling under the weather most of the month definitely was not how I would’ve preferred the month to go. But you always have to make the best of your situation so that is exactly what I did! Some of my favorites definitely helped my sicky-self get through the month. If you’re finding yourself in a similar situation to mine, keep on reading and see how I survived the month!

Samsung Tablet

I’m on my phone all day and sometimes I like to switch up my devices, especially for the silly little games I like to wind down with. I’ve been loving our new tablet and in particular Cookie Jam. It’s another knock off Candy Crush that is unbelievably addicting. My husband makes fun of me every time but I love it!

Lavanilla Deodorant

I recently hauled this and I’m really loving it. I’ll be writing an in depth review and explanation why I switch to a more natural product so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Silver Earrings

These gorgeous earrings were a gift from my boss that she got on her recent trip to Mexico. I’m in love with these earrings because they make sure a bold statement without being overly heavy.

Throat Coat Tea

If you read my How To Beat A Nasty Cold By Drinking blog, then you know all about this bad boy. It’s my ultimate go to when I’m recovering from a cold. It tastes absolutely amazing and really helps ease your throat. I highly recommend trying it out!

Sephora Honey Sugar Lip Scrub, Carmex, NYX Lip Lingerie

These three products in that order has been a life saver to helping me look more put together during my sick days. Whenever I get sick, my lips really take a toll and it shows! This lip scrub helps prep my lips for lipstick and I’m loving these.

Plaid Scarf

I’m loving this scarf for this time of year with the lighter pastel colors. The fabric is so soft and warm which is a must with these awfully cold and rainy days. But the colors channel a spring time vibe. I love this for the transitioning seasons.

March Favorite Posts This Month

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

It’s been a crazy busy month this month. For those who follow my blog closely, you’ll recognize that I took a much needed break this last week. With my five days a week posting schedule mixed with my professional work schedule and life in general, there just wasn’t the time to put my full 100% into my blog. Definitely not wanting to give you all half-a** posts to read, I opted for a break and I’m VERY glad I did. For the remaining weeks I was posting, I had a few that I really loved and I noticed you all felt the same about them as well! Without further explanation, here are my favorite posts from last month in case you missed any.

How To Beat A Nasty Cold By Drinking

Cold.JPG

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Yes, you read that right. Drinking your way to better health. Sadly, it’s not the drinking you might have in mind. Alcohol is probably the last thing on your mind if you’re battling a tough cold. However, I have a few drinks that will help you kick that cold’s a** and get you back to normal in no time!

Emergen-C

I like to mix these into a small glass of water and just chug it on the spot. Don’t get me wrong, these taste great! I just don’t need to waste an hour slowly drinking a large glass of water. I much rather get the vitamin C in my system right away. This drink will definitely help you boost your immune system so if you even feel a cold coming on, grab yourself some of this.

Traditional’s Throat Coat Tea

This is some of the yummiest tea I’ve ever tasted and it feels absolutely amazing on sore throats. It really did soothe my throat and help suppress my cough which is major when you’re trying to fall asleep!

Water

SOOO original, I know. But seriously, this will help tremendously if you are drinking water like none other. Flush all the bad stuff out of your system and be sure to stay hydrated.

5 Most Important Tips For New Bloggers

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

The weekend is finally here again and I’m ready to get a little creative juices flowing in terms of blog posts. I don’t know about any of you, but I get the most inspired on weekend mornings. Something about sleeping until my body wakes me up and getting to spend a quiet lovely morning in my home, just really gets my creativity going! Today, I wanted to share my 5 tips I recommend to all newbie bloggers. I’m relatively new myself, hitting the one year mark this coming month, and I feel like I’ve learned so much already. Don’t get me wrong, I’m continuing to learn every single day; however, these 5 tips have always been true since day one. All new bloggers will greatly benefit from these 5 tips!

If you aren’t liking it, don’t post it.

Occasionally, I’ll start writing a post but when it’s all said and done I end up not enjoying it. I always heard that having a consistent posting schedule is key to growing your blog and would panic if I couldn’t keep mine consistent. But if you aren’t liking what you’re putting out there, your readers will see that. Always post things you’re 100% in love with, if you aren’t feeling that post you can save it to a later date (and fresh mind) or just delete it. Always put your best self out there.

The power of community is a very real concept.

If you aren’t getting involved with fellow bloggers, odds are, you won’t get too far. It’s crazy how much you’ll grow when you give others around you the attention you’d like to receive. Liking, following, commenting with other bloggers is a great way to get to know other amazing people and help promote your blog.

Nothing makes a good photo great like some natural lighting.

Until you’re 100% sure you want to continue this blogging path, I would hold off on buying a big fancy camera. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need an expensive camera nowadays to get a great photo. Smartphones these days have amazing quality. Taking pictures with your smartphone and some good natural light will give you the same look as an expensive camera. Plan your photo sessions accordingly to the time of day/year to be sure you get the best lighting.

Consistency helps you and your readers.

Having a consistent posting schedule will definitely help you grow. Your readers will know exactly when to come back for more. However, as I said earlier, if you aren’t liking your post – don’t post it. It won’t kill you to miss a day. As long as you’re posting once or twice a week, you’ll be just fine!

Don’t worry about your niche.

Many of the tips that I read while learning about this whole blogging journey was to always define your niche. I never really liked that tip and didn’t really put much thought into it. I don’t like narrowing down my scope any. I want to post whatever I’m feeling. I definitely have a few niches I post about regularly but I don’t like to label myself as just a food, fashion, or beauty blogger. Don’t worry about defining you or your blog. As you write and grow as a person, you’ll naturally find your niche.

Unique Date Ideas w/ Eventbrite

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Date night is the highlight of some people’s week but planning what exactly to do is another story. Coming up with something other than a movie night or a nice dinner is sometimes difficult, whether you’ve been married for 15+ years or you’ve just started seeing each other. Going the extra little mile and coming up with a really fun and unique date idea is a great way to impress your significant other. I recently was introduced to this great site that I’d love to share with all of you that will make date night planning a breeze for everyone! Eventbrite is a site where you can search for your city and it will pull up all the events going on in your area. I’ve gone through my area (small town in the Midwest) and found numerous unique things that I wouldn’t of thought of on my own. I highly recommend going over to their website and taking a look!

Here are some date night ideas that you’ll easily find on Eventbrite :

Concert

Wine/Craft Beerhouse Tour

Fitness Classes

Comedy Show

Museum Tour

Festivals

Eventbrite also has a feature on their site where you can create your own event. You can use it for friend/family gatherings or you can organize a larger event that’s open to the public. It’s a great way to get people together and involved with one another. Next time you are considering planning an event, I highly recommend using Eventbrite to help you organize and get the word out.
