How To Get Clear Skin This Summer

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Summer means later nights, more activities, and hotter temperatures. It’s sometimes hard to keep your skin nice and clear during the excessively hot summer months. Over the years, I’ve learned a few tips and tricks that I want to pass on to you guys to help your skin out this summer! The best part is, none of these tips are difficult or come with a high price tag. Keep reading to take the first step towards better looking skin!

Use Oil To Moisturize

I swear by using oil to moisturize! I use my rosehip oil every single night before bed. If you aren’t already using an oil to moisturize, I highly recommend trying it out. It’s going to be lighter weight in the summer and feel much better on your skin during the heat.

Regularly Clean Your Sunnies

Something a lot of people overlook is how much more often they are using their sunglasses. It’s so important to clean your sunnies more regularly to prevent oil and bacteria from building up.

Up Your Vitamin D Intake

Get outside and enjoy the sunshine! It’s so great for many reasons; but, your skin will look much better after some good ol’ sunshine.

Change Out Your Pillow Cases More Often

During the warmer months, be sure to swap out your pillow cases for fresh ones every couple days. You’re sweating more during the night and definitely don’t want all of that build up getting anywhere near your pores!

Be Sure To Use Sunscreen Daily

Always rule number one. Anyone could tell you that you need sunscreen every day, not just the summer months. Your skin will DEFINITELY thank you later for the extra protection. (Tip : Use a BB cream or moisturizer with sunscreen already mixed in to avoid a step!)

Leave me a comment below telling me how you plan on keeping your skin radiant this summer!

Skincare & Beauty Haul

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

One of my New Years resolutions this year was to spend more money and time on skincare as opposed to makeup. I’ve been doing my research and sorting through recommendations to constantly better my skincare routine. I really think I have some great products in my first haul of the year. Also, props to me for not going skincare crazy until the end of March. The self-restraint is real! Here’s a peak in my Sephora and Ulta haul.

LaVanila Sport Luxe Deodorant

This came as a recommendation from a good friend of mine after she taught me about what is really in all those generic deodorants. (It is not a pretty visual.) I’d recommend looking into the ingredients and their effects on the human body (especially the ta-ta’s). This deodorant smells amazing and has been working very well so far. I’m excited to keep trying it out!

Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips

Just restocking on my fav pore strips. Nothing new here!

Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Lifting Neck Cream

In Ulta I was actually debating between buying this or one of Mario Badescu’s neck creams. I ultimately decided on Mario Badescu’s but I got this as a free gift! Maybe doing a battle of the neck creams? I’ve heard great things about both so I can’t imagine a scenario where I’m disappointed in either!

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, & Rosewater

If you read my recent post about my Beauty Empties, you will recognize this little bottle. I didn’t realize how much I missed having this until I ran out. I really noticed a difference. It’s great when you want a little hydration. I highly recommend checking it out.

NYX HD Concealer

Restocking my usual concealer so nothing crazy!

NYX Angel Veil Primer

I decided to give this a try. I will admit, YouTube made me buy it. More specifically, Kathleen made me buy it. I’ll keep you updated as I get a chance to try this out for a while.

Mario Badescu Vitamin A-D-E Neck Cream

Here is the other neck cream I decided on. I missed this product in my routine. I’m glad to get back on the neck cream train. It’s never too early to start age defying products.

Sephora Honey Lip Scrub

I’ve been in the market for a lip exfoliant and the fact that this one came in a stick, so I wouldn’t have to use my fingers, really intrigued me. I’ll keep you all updated!

Not Your Mother’s Beat The Heat Thermal Shield Spray

If you read my Beauty Empties post, you’ll know that I recently ran out of my old Tresemme heat protectant and didn’t really enjoy it. I’m hoping to fall in love with this new product!

Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried one of these and what your thoughts are!

Multi-Masking

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know how much I love my face masks. I’m constantly trying out new ones to try and find the best for my skin type. Now, when I say constantly, I mean constantly. I do a face mask almost every day of the week (especially during the colder winter months). Here are the current masks I’m rotating back and forth with!

Origins Charcoal.JPG

Origins Charcoal

This mask is great at what it does, sucking all the bad stuff out of your face. However, I’m finding that it’s doing maybe too good of a job. I broke out like crazy from this mask but I kept using it. I figured that it was just detoxing my skin and after a month or so it would start to clear up. No such luck. I think I’m going to start using this as my nighttime spot treatment instead of using it as an all over face mask. Any tips out there I should be taking into account with this mask? I hear nothing but good things but my goodness my skin is NOT liking it!

glamglow-thirstymud

GlamGlow Thirstymud

Any of GlamGlow’s products have always been my ultimate go-to. I have tried three or four of their masks in the past and I never have any problems with them. I cannot rave about these enough. I always follow the Origins Charcoal mask, the next day, with this mask to really moisturize my face. It smells so amazing and works like a dream! I love it. My skin is so soft and smooth the next day.

Fresh Rose Face Mask.JPG

Fresh Rose Face Mask

This is a newer mask for me but I have worked it into my mix of masks throughout the week. This mask supposedly moisturizes and tightens the face. I see both of those claims after using it. I love this mask as well. I could do without the potent smell but, beggars can’t be choosers!

Biore Pore Masks.jpg

Biore Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips

This isn’t exactly a mask but I thought I’d bring it up anyways because I use this once a week for about a year now. I can’t imagine not using it now! These charcoal pore strips work like magic! Buh-bye nasty blackheads!

(Pictured above is the Origins Charcoal Mask as a spot treatment, Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strip on my nose, and the Fresh Rose Face Mask on the majority of my face.)

I hope you enjoyed this post and maybe found a new mask you’d like to try. As I said, I’m always looking for new masks to try out so comment below some of your favorites!

Radha Rosehip Oil Review

img_9120

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Earlier this week, I posted about a bunch of skincare and makeup products I just hauled. I purchased this little beauty a week or so before those items and thought I would do a special post all about this. I’ve been using this oil for about two weeks and I could see the results within the first week. This stuff is magic!

Why purchase this product?

Rosehip oil is known to heal scarring, prevent acne, and give your skin a healthy amount of moisture to keep you from drying out in the colder months (and year round honestly). I’ve been meaning to switch up my skin care routine and swap out my moisturizer for an oil. This is honestly the best product I have purchased for my face thus far. If you remember my Lush review, the Mask of Magneminty broke me out SO bad. Within the first few days of using this rosehip oil, it was healed and my skin looked amazing. I’m not sure where this has been all my life but I’m sure glad I purchased it now!

How do I use this product?

I use this oil on my face and neck at night only. After I wash my face at night, I’ll apply a generous amount all over my face and neck to really moisturize. The reason I put emphasis on using it at night is because (even though you can’t see it through the bottle’s tint) this oil is bright orange and leaves your skin a bit orange. It’s nothing to be worried about at night though as it seeps into your skin throughout the night and the tint wears off by morning.

Where can I purchase this product?

I got my oil on Amazon. I’ll leave the link here for you to go purchase it. This is such a great deal because you get so much product for such a little price. (And I mean Amazon Prime shipping isn’t too shabby either) Rosehip oil isn’t hard to find but I love this brand and highly recommend it to everyone!

My Evening Skincare Routine

008

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Makeup is fun and all, but no one can disagree with how amazing it feels to take it off at the end of the day! Over the years I’ve tried a lot of different products out on my skin to try and find the best combination for me; and, after 23 years, I think I’ve got it!

My Skin Type: I tend to be more normal but get oily in my t-zone areas. I’ve struggled with acne as much as the next person, not too bad but not crystal clear skin either. Most of my acne is hormonal but I’ll get the occasional pimple in areas I subconsciously touch throughout the day (Ex: chin and temples).

My Routine:

  1. My nightly routine always starts with a makeup remover. The one I’ve been using for the past couple years is the Mario Badescu Cucumber Cleansing Lotion on a cotton pad. Despite what the name says, it is not lotion. It does a great job breaking down my makeup and leaving my skin feeling fresh. Using one pad for my face and a separate one for my eyes seem to work best for me and keeps junk from clogging my pores.
  2. After I have removed my makeup sufficiently, I go in with my cleanser. Currently, I have been trying out the Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Control and am really enjoying it! It definitely isn’t as natural of a formula as my makeup remover but it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. I ALWAYS dry my face off with a fresh towel to prevent the buildup of bacteria and undoing all the cleansing I just did.
  3. Aloe Vera is a secret of mine that really helps my sensitive skin. The aloe calms down any irritation and helps with reducing redness. Definitely a good idea to add to your regimen.
  4. Next, I like to go in with my moisturizer. I make sure to apply a decent amount so my skin can continue soaking it in all night. Be sure to bring down the moisturizer onto your neck (it’s one of the first places to show your age!).
  5. Eye cream has definitely helped out my bags and help me eliminate the need for color correcting during my makeup routine. I added this about a year ago to help prevent wrinkles and eye bags. So far, it has done a great job! (Looking for a great cruelty free eye cream to move onto after this one.)
  6. I tend to sway more towards using Vaseline as my lip treatment at night. It definitely helps keep my lips moisturized enough to handle liquid lipsticks every day. Vaseline works much better than a simple chapstick does but it’s often too thick to wear during the day.
  7. For pimple spot treatment, I always go back to my Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. I’ve used this product for years now and it does a wonderful job drying out my acne. Be sure to ONLY apply it directly to the pimple because it is very drying. I cannot say enough good things about this product!

It may seem a little excessive but I swear by each and every step. I’m the epitome of a lazy girl but I can’t find any corners to cut when it comes to my skincare routine. If I skip a step, I can tell the next morning. Good news is, after some time, it becomes habit and now I can get through all these steps in less than 5 minutes! Makeup is fun but products and trends come and go. Be good to your skin, you have it forever!
