Hitting Pan On Some Favorites

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

It’s that time again to run through some products of mine that I have used up. This time around is a lot of hair care products. Mostly because I’ve got some seriously thick and long hair. My hair eats up anything I put into it like it’s nothing! As you can tell, I’m a loyal Batiste customer. I’m always on the lookout for something new to try so I’d love for you to leave me some suggestions below.

This time, my empties consist of some real tried and true staples in my beauty collection. I’ve loved all of these and repurchased them all again. This is definitely the post to check out if you’re in the market for anything new.

Batiste Dry Shampoo

I haven’t tried a Batiste dry shampoo that I haven’t loved but I’m a sucker for the Divine Dark shade. It works just as well as the others and masks the typical dry shampoo “dust” with a hint of my brunette hair color. Really great!

OGX Coconut Milk Shampoo

Yeah, I’ve run through a huge bottle of this. Since I go 3-4 days between washing my hair, I like to double up when I do wash it. I find giving it a double dose of shampoo really cleans my hair well. This coconut milk shampoo feels great on my hair. Shampoo naturally strips the oils from your hair, good and bad, but this shampoo doesn’t dry my hair out at all. I’ve purchased another large bottle of this already!

Lush Retread

Cannot think of a better hair mask. I really can’t! I have yet to come across another moisturizing mask that can beat this product. I live by this! Click here to read my full review on this product!

Jergens Natural Glow

For all the pale girls out there like me who have the worst time getting a natural tan. I highly recommend this natural tanner. It’ll save your skin from the harsh sun rays but will give your skin the glowing radiance of beautifully tanned skin.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray

Ever since I tried this out last year, I’ve been HOOKED! I don’t go a day without using it. It really does keep my makeup in place and helps my face stay in place throughout the day! Click here to read my review of this product!

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation

I’ve done a full out review of this product so I won’t waste your time. Click here to read my review. Just know, you’ll be hooked after trying it!

2017 Swimwear Haul

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

With summer right around the corner and my honeymoon even closer, it was definitely time to add some new swimsuits to the wardrobe. The last time I bought swimwear was at least four years ago so it’s safe to say I was overdue. I picked up two sets and one top but plan on mixing and matching throughout our honeymoon and for the rest of the summer. I really was enjoying the more natural boho vibes when I was selecting new pieces and loved how all three of these pair together nicely. I picked all of these up at the ever so wonderful Target! That’s why I wanted to be sure to write this post sooner than later so you could go pick up any of these that you may like!

You’ll have to forgive me if I don’t try these on for you now as I’d probably blind you with my lovely winter pale a** skin. Of course, I’ll be taking way too many pictures during our honeymoon so you’ll see all of these suits in action! Plus, everything always looks better in a tropical location.

Furocious OOTD

Dress : Target  |  Leggings : Target  |  Shoes  : Bonanza  |

|  Vest : Maurices  |

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

If you’re still reading after seeing that extremely dorky title, I applaud you. (I like to think I’m kind of punny on occasion.) This outfit though, is anything but dorky. I just picked up this super cute fur vest and couldn’t wait to break it out. I’ve been keeping an eye out for a fur vest this winter and I finally found one that didn’t break the bank or cost an animal their life. I paired this vest with a long sleeve dress that I’ve had for a few years now. You all know that I love playing with texture so here are my beloved leather leggings once again making an appearance. If I hadn’t worn this to work, I may have swapped them for more sheer tights to really let the pink dress stand out as a dress. I loved the warmth physically and aesthetically pairing these over the knee brown boots gave this outfit. Overall, a good day for fashion! I’ve linked all the products I can above, or found similar products.

My Gallery Wall

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Like everything in a home, no project is ever complete. I just wanted to show you where I am in the process of creating my gallery wall. I love gallery walls because they are the easiest and best looking way to display pictures, Knick knacks, and all kinds of decorative items you may pick up along the way. My gallery wall has been a work in progress for about a year so far and I’m really happy with how it’s coming together. I will link all the products I can or at least link similar products.

Downtown Chicago Pictures

My mother actually took these photos years ago on one of her trips there with my sister. I loved the shots so I decided to put them in this simple black frame from Target.

Libra & Cancer Paintings

These are watercolor paintings I did myself actually. I got the idea off of similar pieces from Minted, feel free to buy them here if art isn’t your forte. I ordered the square white frames from Amazon and I love them.

Couple’s Pictures

The idea for this came from Pinterest, of course. It’s a picture of me and my husband our first year and our last year of college with our first college apartment address in the middle. Once I get around to it, I am going to put a copy of that apartment’s key in the center as well. Loved the idea and I can’t wait to see it all come together.

Gold Foil Iowa Map

I ordered this piece from Minted as soon as I found it. I LOVE the gold foil. Minted also has a variety of frames to offer so I just picked up a white one to go with my theme.

Artistic Quote

The small little quote in the blue frame was just a quote I got off of Pinterest paired with a frame I picked up from Target.

Antique Mirrored Arrows

I picked these up recently from Target and I love the three dimensionality it gives to the wall. These are so cute and can be sure all together or separately like I am.

Wedding Quote

This gorgeous piece was actually a wedding gift from my sister. I love it! The poem is one she wrote specifically for us and I think it’s absolutely beautiful! Her creativity never ceases to amaze me.

Family Photo

I love these family photos we took last year with my husband’s family and the blue in their shirts pairs well with the subtle blue theme of the wall.

Gold Hello Sign

I recently picked this up from the Target dollar spot and thought it was a super cute addition. The hello sign can be removed and replaced with a new picture but I like the color of it so I think I’ll keep it for a while.

I hope you enjoyed this little look at my gallery wall and pulled some inspiration to incorporate these pieces in your own home. Let me know down below what your favorite piece was!

Clothing Haul

Clothing Haul.JPG

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Online shopping to way too dangerous. It makes it way too easy to get just what I’m looking for (and often times more than what is in the shops here locally). I just picked up a few pieces from Charlotte Russe and Target that I’m really enjoying so far! Let’s start off easy with Target.

Moon Tee

This brand is beginning to be my favorite new thing. This is the same brand as my Nam-a-stay In Bed shirt and they are so incredibly soft and comfortable. I saw this super cute geometric lunar shirt and had to get it! (If it ain’t black, put it back on the rack. Am I right?)

Cut Out Sweater

Speaking of “If it ain’t black, put it back on the rack”. This sweater is so cozy and I love the shoulder cut outs. They make the perfect accent to this piece and give it more life than a plain black sweater.

Olive Football Tee

Switching over to Charlotte Russe, I picked up this tee in hopes that the material is similar to the moon shirt I picked up from Target! And it does feel the same! So comfy and very flattering. Perfect cozy shirt and can easily be dressed up.

Black Ankle Booties

I have been in desperate need of some black booties! I have been wearing my camel booties constantly this fall and black makes everything look better.

White Off The Shoulder Top

I picked this adorable top up to wear to any upcoming bridal events or the day after the wedding brunch with everyone. I thought this top would be adorable with blush high waisted jeans. I’m so excited to wear this!

Plain Baseball Hat

This hat is much more gray than it appears online. You also can’t really see the fabric well online, the satin must not photograph well. Other than that, I really enjoy this hat. It’s great for third day hair that is just not cooperating and you still want to have that comfy chic look.

I’m excited to break these out and start wearing them. Look forward to some OOTD posts in the near future! If there are any specific pieces you want to see, let me know down below in the comments!

Lookbook / Outfit Ideas featuring Warby Parker x Leith Clark

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

I’m so excited to talk to you guys today about this wonderful brand, Warby Parker, as they announce their newest line. For those who don’t know, Warby Parker is an eyeglass and sunglasses designer. There are a million designers out there but there is something special about Warby Parker that I can’t get enough of! They have amazing selections, great quality, and a great cause to back up their brand.

(They have a great and unique selection that you really can’t find anywhere around here. Since they do not have a location in little ole Iowa, it’s a great thing that they offer to ship 5 pairs of glasses to you for free to try on!)

Warby Parker teamed up with Leith Clark for an amazing new line that I am so excited to tell you about. The new collection just went live today! Use this link here to peruse their latest and greatest styles! One of my favorite parts about this company is the hospitality and utilitarian values they hold. For this collection, they are donating to an organization called Girl Up. Girl Up is a campaign run by the United Nations and encourages girls to raise awareness and funds for UN programs. It’s a really great program so I’ll leave a link here for those who would like to learn more about it. Every pair of frames that Warby Parker sells, is a pair they will distribute to those in need. Such a great cause with such incredible style. Who could say no?

Now on to the fashion! My three top favs are what I wanted to talk about today: Fleta, Valda, and Zelda. I don’t know about you but I think I love the names as much as I love the style! I wanted to show you how these styles can be meshed with so many different kinds of styles. A lot of the time, when people see such an extravagant style, such as Fleta, that can steer them away. I wanted to show you how you can pair these shades with everyday outfits and your own personal style.

I need to get my hands on a pair of these! These styles are right up my alley and I strongly believe in the organizations and foundations they donate to. I’m so happy I had the opportunity to talk to you all about this collection and I hope that you all enjoyed it as well! Leave a comment below and let me know which style is your favorite!

Shopping Haul – Target, Ulta, Michael’s

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

I definitely satisfied my shopping itch this weekend. My wallet isn’t happy, but I am! Like most people, Target always gets the best of me. This haul is definitely an odd mixture of all things décor, clothing, and beauty so let’s just get into it!

Firstly, this shirt…omg it is made of the comfiest material ever. I purchased it this weekend and I’ve already worn it. It’s super cute and super comfortable. This shirt will definitely be one of the most used in my collection and who can argue with that price? Am I right? Target you don’t disappoint.

Cat owners will understand this next purchase. I’ve been needing a jewelry tray to put my ring and earrings in at night. Whenever I put them loosely on my night stand, I’ll wake up to find that my cat took them and hid them…This tray is super cute and I loved the metal mixed with glass.

I was in desperate need of a mascara so I decided to try out a Wet N Wild mascara to add to my cruelty free products. So far, I’m not disappointed! I can’t tell if that is because this mascara actually rocks or if my old mascara was soooo beyond done that anything looks better. I’ll keep you updated.

I picked up two more bottles of the Batiste Dark & Deep Brown dry shampoo because I go through these things like nobody’s business! I like the brunette version much better than the original due to the fact that I don’t have to worry about brushing out the white cast.

I’ve wanted to try out these blushes ever since I saw Casey Holmes rave about them. So I picked up Wet N Wild’s Color Icon Ombre Blush in Mai Tai Buy You A Drink. I’m excited to try this out! I bought it at Target but can only seem to find the purple blush on their website? So I linked the actual color from Wet N Wild.

I couldn’t resist picking up another darker nude liquid lipstick and I’ve been meaning to try the new NYX Lip Lingerie line (mine is in the color Push Up). Dark nudes are definitely my go to year round.

I’m always looking to get my hands on a backup eyebrow pencil. So naturally, I had to pick up some more of my ash brown!

I’ve been looking for a good set of cute letters to display. I’m not quite sure where they’re going to be displayed yet but I love the color and material of these. I just had to have them!

Tips and Tricks For Creating Your Dream Living Room – For Every 20-Something Living On Their Own

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

What a gorgeous way to start of the week! I was definitely feeling the need to shop around for some home décor this weekend. So, I satisfied that need with that big gorgeous canvas up on the wall (I’m OBSESSED). Then I got to thinking: “What better way to start the week than with some home décor inspiration?” Well, here I am! I’ve already talked about Creating Your Personal Oasis in your bedroom; so, let’s take today to talk about your living room.

This post is for all you 20-somethings out there or simply all of you out there decorating on a budget. I’m in the same boat as all of you; except as a designer, I’m tempted by all of this home décor EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. It’s exhausting trying to resist buying these 24/7! So let me help you figure out what you need to buy to start achieving that designer feel. My living room is nowhere near complete but, like all projects, it’s a journey that happens in phases. So, here are five simple tips that can help you achieve that designer look for less.

  1. Invest in your signature pieces. Those pieces include the larger pieces of furniture that get used most frequently. For me, that was the sectional. We got ours at Homemakers a year ago for only $600! (Click here for the exact sectional.) Gorgeous durable pieces don’t always have to cost an arm and a leg. This sectional has held up through a year of cats, dogs, and us without showing any of it. If this sectional isn’t your style, be sure to check out sites like Overstock, Joss and Main, and Wayfair for some amazing deals on your signature pieces.
  2. Ditch the socks. I’ll be the first to remove carpeting in any place I live in. However, I’ve got a serious soft spot for rugs. They’re a great way to dress up a room and add a touch of color or texture. I purchased ours on Wayfair for a pretty decent price (click here for the exact rug)!
  3. Mix the old with the new. You can’t go purchasing all new everything (not yet at least). So, learn to repurpose and mix your old pieces with the new. Our coffee table originally was a light pine color that really didn’t work in our home or with any of our furniture. Some time and paint (and the help of my mother) changed that stubborn old piece into a timeless piece I can mix with any style.
  4. Get cozy. This is where decorating really starts to get fun. Adding accent pillows and throw blankets easily take your living room to the next level. Sadly, accent pillows aren’t too cheap. However, if you look for comfort as well as aesthetically pleasing pillows, you’ll find the perfect balance that will make the decision whether or not to buy the pillow a simple one. The furry pillows came from HomeGoods while the navy and the gold pillows came from Target. (They no longer carry the navy pillows but they were part of the Nate Berkus collection.)
  5. Add the wow factor. Whether you do this through artwork, lighting, or décor it’ll certainly add the extra push to make your living room really come together. This piece of art is my first installment of this step. It definitely did not come cheap…so the lamp and décor I have in mind will need to wait (the art was also a HomeGoods purchase so I sadly can’t link it). And that’s okay! If you can practice patience, I promise the end look will be much more satisfying!
