3 Tips To Stay Organized During The Busy Months

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

School just got back into session. The holidays are coming up. We are starting to get less hours of sunlight. Needless to say, it’s a busy time of year! I can’t stress enough how a well maintained organizational routine is key, especially this time of year. Here are three major components on how I stay organized throughout the year.

Google Calendar

My saving grace! I love planners and journals for the occasional desire to physically write things down. However, most of the time, I love using a digital planner. I love the ability to switch things around and mess up an entry without having to erase or cross something out. It keeps my whole thoughts together and gives me the ability to move things around. Love! I plug everything into my calendar from what blogs to write, pictures to take, and when to actually post my blogs. However, I use my calendar for much more than just blogging. I use it to keep track of personal appointments, bills, and even planning out larger projects. You can color code, assign times, set up alarms, and so much more. I’m so glad I switched over to Google Calendar! They even have an easy to use app so I can get notifications on my laptop and phone. I highly recommend!

Carefully Scheduled Timers

Having an iPhone spoils me. It’s as easy as, “Siri, set a timer for….” I like to set timers for reminders of when I need to start working on things; as well as, using the timers to tell me when I need to stop doing a task. It can be tedious at first but once you really start getting into this habit, it will really start to boost your productivity. It will start to show you how long tasks actually take and how quickly you can get them done! It’s a great self-accountability habit to get into. It’s important to work and get things done but it’s equally as important to rest. Having an alarm to tell you when to quit will help act as an outside voice to really tell your brain to stop.

Set Routines

I’m a creature of habit and a stickler for routines so you know I had to include this. I have certain things that I like to routinely do every day or every other day. Keeping to a schedule helps balance all the different events going on in my life. For those who are new, I have a full time job and also push to post four blogs a week. That’s a pretty full schedule and I like to make sure it all works into my routine! If you aren’t a routine person, using timers will actually help get you on a scheduled routine. Once your mind can settle on a routine throughout your day, you’ll rest a lot easier and be so much more productive.

Netflix Binge Watching Favorites

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Some of the best weekends are the ones with no plans but a massive Netflix marathon. I live off of Netflix! I can’t tell you how many times I have binge watched all of these shows. I’m a stickler for change; if I find a show that I really love, it’s hard for me to drop it and move on to another. I think I’ve included quite a few different types of shows here so you’ll definitely find something you’ll be able to binge watch this weekend!

Fool Proof Hangover Cure

Capture.JPG

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer

Hangovers, the worst part of a great night. I wanted to share with you how I cure the worst of them within a few hours. There’s no use in wasting a day, or wasting calories, on a hangover. If you messed up and didn’t take a few ibuprofen with water before bed the night before (which usually does the trick for me to wake up hangover free), then don’t you worry. I’ve got you covered.

Water

Obviously. Your body needs water after all the alcohol you guzzled down the night before. You really should drink a large glass of water first thing every morning; but, be sure you especially don’t skip this step when you wake up hungover.

Medicate

Pop a couple ibuprofen or take an Advil to get the healing started.

Banana

I know it probably sounds disgusting at the time. Your body doesn’t NEED the unhealthy greasy breakfast that you know you’re craving, it NEEDS the potassium. Save the calories, eat a banana.

Tea

A warm cup of tea always eases my stomach when it is upset. When I’m hungover, I opt for my detoxifying tea. I use the Roasted Dandelion Root from Traditional Medicinals. It’s a great organic detox tea (little earthy for those not accustomed). You won’t see all the celebrities promoting it but it still works just the same. Drink a cup of tea to help ease your stomach and prepare for the next step…

Get Moving – Work Out

It’s going to sound awful and the exact opposite of what you want to do but I promise you will feel so much better once it’s all said and done. Sweat out all the left over toxins in your body. You could go on a long walk, run on the treadmill, or just do a little in home ab work. Really it’s all up to you, but I promise you’ll feel a million times better after.

After these steps, you’ll feel back to normal. The best part is that this process will take only a couple hours and they’ll save the rest of your day! Try this out next time you’re feeling a little under the weather and let me know how it goes!

July Hot Spots

Hello you, and welcome to inside the mind of an Obsessive Compulsive Designer.

Summer means getting out to enjoy the weather, friends, and some good drinks. Today I wanted to share a few of my favorite locations to get just that. I’ve been enjoying wandering around and exploring all of the fun things Des Moines has to offer. I love living near such a big city because I find that no matter how much I go exploring, I can always stumble upon something new! So, without further ado, here are a few of my new favorite hot spots for this summer!

The Rooftop in downtown Des Moines is my favorite summer spot. They have a great menu, great location, and everyone says they have the best Moscow Mules in the city! So do you really need to hear any more? It is a smaller location so it tends to get a little packed so if you’re looking to get in and get a seat I’d recommend trying an early lunch. They’re in such a great location that you can make a day of shopping afterwards! Fair warning, there is little to no coverage from the sun so be sure to dress appropriately. Because you’ll be frying in the sun! (Gotta look out for my pale girls out there!)

The Juice Company is such a cute little hole in the wall place in Des Moines that I never would’ve found if it wasn’t for a friend. I’m so glad she opened my eyes cause this is the cutest little smoothie and juice shop I’ve seen! There’s just something about seeing all of the fresh fruits laying out that gives me a better feeling about what I’m putting in my body. (Because you know that cheap smoothie from a fast food chain is just some frozen chemical filled nastiness.) One of their most popular items is a wheat grass shot, they have tons of this grass all around their shop (so cute!). I’m not brave enough yet to try it but be sure to let me know how it is if you are!

Wellman’s Pub and Rooftop has a special place in my heart because if there is anything better than drinking outside, it’s drinking on a rooftop. They have such a big venue with so many different spaces to really suit everyone. Their outdoor patio area on the first floor is beyond adorable and the large awning really helps on days when the sun is pounding down. Their food is amazing and I always tend to lean towards their wraps because they all sound so good! The drink menu is just as extensive and amazing. I feel like they always have WAY too many tempting drink specials going on. (Makes it very difficult to choose!)

Send me your favorite hot spots so I can try something new! And don’t forget to let me know if you try out one of my favorites! 🙂
